Sterling watched as the smile froze on her face. She slowly lowered her dark lashes, hiding whatever emotions were swirling in her eyes.
"In name, you're my girlfriend, but in reality... you're not. This is just a transaction."
His voice echoed in the quiet car. "Now that he wants you, if you're interested, I don't mind doing him a favor... and handing you over."
Elena's eyes widened in horror. She immediately started to protest. "I don't—"
"Don't rush to refuse. Hear me out first."
Sterling cut her off, adding methodically, "My brother might have his prejudices against women, but he's generous. Every woman who has been with him walks away with a massive severance package."
"Given your background, Elena, if you pass this up, you might never get an opportunity like this again. Don't you want to... think about it?"
He steepled his fingers, waiting for her answer.
"There's nothing to think about. I don't want him!"
Barely a second passed before she lunged forward, grabbing his hands tightly. "Master Sterling, please, you can't hand me over to him!"
Sterling didn't look up. He just stared quietly at her small hands wrapping around his, her soft skin contrasting sharply with the prominent veins on the back of his hand.
They were delicate and beautifully flawless, even with one hand wrapped in white gauze.
"Think about it," Elena pleaded, panicking when he remained silent, terrified that he was genuinely considering giving her to Xavier. "You just told him I'm the love of your life. Even if he wants me, he wouldn't dare make a move!"
"If we break up and I go to him, he'll think I'm a ruthless gold-digger! My whole job was to make him hate me, and you said yourself he's a degenerate. He'd probably abuse me..."
