Sterling had been stressing over what to do with the girl once they got into the bedroom.
The master bedroom only had one bed, and since Elena was just a fake girlfriend, he absolutely couldn't let her sleep in it with him!
Partly because he already had a crush, and partly because he was a bit grossed out by Elena’s background, assuming she wasn't entirely clean.
The worst part was his own traitorous body, which kept reacting to her. He was definitely going to need a cold shower tonight!
Just then, his brother stopped him.
“Sterling, for tonight... can she sleep in the guest room?”
When he turned around, that was what he heard.
Xavier’s jaw tightened. Even though he knew it was inappropriate, he gritted his teeth and made up an excuse. “I just remembered I have some business to discuss with you.”
In a way, the two brothers had coincidentally reached a mutual understanding, solving both of their problems.
“Oh, alright then.”
Sterling was thrilled on the inside, though he tried to look reluctant on the outside.
“No way!”
But in the next second, Elena refused. She hugged his arm and shook it playfully. “Sterling, I’m not used to this place. I’ll be scared sleeping all alone.”
“Be a good girl, Elena. Don't be scared.”
Under Xavier's freezing glare, Sterling played the perfect boyfriend, comforting her gently while awkwardly patting her slightly damp head.
“I am scared! I don't want to sleep away from you!”
Elena played the annoying, clingy girlfriend flawlessly.
“Xavier, go on inside. I’ll coax her and be right there.”
Tossing the remark to his brother, Sterling pulled her toward a corner of the hallway.
He hadn't forgotten the estate had security cameras, so he deliberately chose a blind spot to ensure their secret wouldn't be exposed.
“That’s enough. We’re done for the night.”
The boy lowered his voice. His puppy-dog eyes were bright, shining with a pure, innocent light.
“You did great. My brother absolutely hates you. He won't even let me spend the night with you!”
Looking past the boy, she caught sight of the lean, tall, and imposing figure of Xavier standing not far away.
He held a cigarette between his fingers, taking slow, deliberate drags while staring at her expressionlessly.
As the pale smoke swirled and drifted around him, blurring his face, it made him look exactly like a demon wearing human skin from a horror story—dangerously dark to the extreme!
Never before had it hit Elena with such absolute clarity.
Xavier was not going to let her go!
“You’re not what?”
Her abrupt pause piqued Sterling's curiosity.
“Nothing. You’re right to judge me. A woman like me, willing to sink so low, is truly awful.”
Elena pivoted smoothly, agreeing with the boy instead.
It was obvious this young master was different from his brother. He still had kindness and a sense of justice.
This was clear from the fact that he was willing to hire her to take the heat from his family first, all so his crush would have an easier time being accepted later.
