Seeing his brother staring fixedly at his neck, Sterling, still young and inexperienced, felt mortified. Having never truly been intimate before, he couldn't play it cool.
Embarrassed by the intense gaze, he unconsciously pulled his bathrobe tighter, doing his best to cover it up.
“I’m fine, perfectly fine!”
After a long pause, Xavier's lips twitched into a fake, forced smile.
No matter how Sterling looked at it, his brother didn't seem 'perfectly fine' at all. He looked like an absolute wreck!
After thinking it over, it had to be because of his ex-girlfriend.
Ever since Xavier returned to the capital six months ago, his moods had been incredibly erratic. His former playboy persona was completely gone.
Whenever he heard the slightest rumor about his ex, he would drop everything and fly out to investigate personally.
Sterling had asked Tristan about it, and Tristan thought Xavier was just going crazy.
Sterling, on the other hand, figured his brother might have actually found his true love, which was why the ultimate player was finally settling down.
Fortunately, Alistair was there to shoulder all the family’s major affairs, so Xavier's behavior wasn't causing any real damage.
“Indulging too much in women will ruin your health.”
Out of nowhere, Xavier dropped this piece of advice, sounding as if he genuinely cared. “While you’re still young, you’d better learn some self-control. Keep your distance from her!”
“Huh?”
Sterling was confused at first, then something clicked, and his gaze flicked downward toward Xavier's waist. “Xavier, is what they say online true? Once a man hits twenty-five, his body ages to sixty? Are you already having... performance issues.”
“Screw off! I’m perfectly fine!”
Xavier cut him off, feeling a throbbing vein pulsing at his temple.
“What I mean is, this is your first time dating. You don't need to be doing it so often. If you drain yourself completely, it’s going to ruin things for your next relationship.”
This logic was so completely nonsensical that even Xavier couldn't bear to hear himself say it.
But Sterling trusted his brother. He smiled and stepped forward. “Xavier, you worry too much. I’m already nineteen! Other guys my age have been with tons of girls, and they don't have those problems.”
Sterling snapped back to reality. Unable to answer truthfully, he gave a vague, brush-off reply. “Xavier, don't be so prejudiced against her. Anyway, she’s really special. I love her so much!”
Xavier said nothing, just continued to smoke relentlessly.
When he finished one cigarette, he pulled out another and was just about to light it.
“Xavier, didn't you quit smoking for your ex-girlfriend? I haven't seen you smoke in ages. Why are you starting again now?”
Sterling could clearly tell his brother was in a terrible mood tonight.
Thinking back, it had started right around the time he caught him and Elena together.
Honestly, while he wanted his brother to hate Elena as much as possible, he didn't want his own fake relationship drama to cause Xavier this much distress.
Just as he was thinking this, his brother suddenly turned to him. Staring dead into his eyes, Xavier corrected him, grinding out every single word. “She’s not my ex. We never broke up. She is still my girlfriend!”
