"Why did you call Elena to your room?"
Sterling frowned, his unwavering trust in his older brother making him question the entire situation.
Cold sweat beaded on Xavier's forehead, his face pale as agonizing waves of pain radiated from his groin.
The second before Sterling had barged in, he had desperately scrambled into bed, yanking the heavy duvet over himself.
He had even managed to frantically unclip the leather collar from his neck right in the nick of time.
"She's the girl you brought home. I needed to verify her background," Xavier rasped.
His voice was incredibly hoarse from the effort it took to suppress a groan of agony.
"I'm perfectly aware of her background. You don't need to worry about it," Sterling replied coolly.
Noticing Xavier's sickly complexion, Sterling decided to drop the interrogation.
He then looked down at Elena. Aside from the glaringly inappropriate lack of pants and the fact that she was wearing his shirt...
Everything else seemed fine.
It was obvious nothing illicit had actually happened between them.
He was confident Xavier had absolutely no romantic interest in her.
The real question was, had she tried to throw herself at him?
"Sterls, why are you ignoring me?"
Sensing Sterling's judgmental stare, a flicker of panic flared in Elena's chest.
He was her only lifeline. She couldn't afford to lose him now.
"You didn't even bother putting on actual clothes to meet my brother. What the hell is wrong with you?" Sterling scolded her harshly.
"I thought it was an emergency! I didn't have time to think—"
Elena hugged his trim waist tighter, looking up at him with massive, innocent eyes.
Catching his icy glare, she intentionally sweetened her voice. "I promise I'll dress appropriately next time. Please don't be mad at me, Sterls."
"You better."
