The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 137

Rhys's expression didn't change much. He glanced down at the folder without taking it or opening it.

"Did she send you?"

"Yes."

"How much is she paying you? I'll pay double. Take your things, leave, and tell her to stop making a scene."

Daniel shook his head. "This isn't about money. I am her attorney, not a messenger boy."

He opened the folder and took out a lawyer's letter and a draft of the lawsuit.

"Given your previous refusal to sign the divorce agreement, we’re fully prepared to take this to court."

" according to relevant laws, when one spouse requests a divorce, they may seek mediation or file a suit directly with the court. If you keep refusing to sign, we’ll just file the lawsuit."

Rhys looked at the documents, his eyes turning cold.

He picked up the complaint and skimmed it.

"Irretrievable breakdown of marriage." "No possibility of reconciliation."

And another clause.

"The Defendant has long neglected the Plaintiff's emotional needs and, during the marriage, maintained an inappropriate intimacy with another member of the opposite sex beyond reasonable boundaries."

Rhys tossed the file back onto the desk. "Evidence."

He looked at Daniel. "You're a lawyer. You should know the legal consequences of filing false accusations. You dare write down such baseless charges?"

"Whether they are baseless isn't for you or me to decide. The chain of evidence will speak for itself in court."

Daniel continued calmly, "Regarding the fact that you brought Miss West to stay overnight at your marital home in Riverside Court, the community surveillance and security logs have been preserved."

Rhys started to say that was a special circumstance, but Daniel didn't give him the chance. "Furthermore, not long ago, your vehicle was recorded parked at the Harborview Hotel for over twelve hours."

"By the way, Mr. Huntington. You seem so confident that Ms. Johnson is just throwing a tantrum. Is that because you think she can't live without you, or because... you simply don't remember the last time you two actually had a civil conversation?"

Rhys was stunned.

The last civil conversation...

On the dive boat in Sunbay City, they had parted on bad terms. Fireworks had filled the sky on Christmas Eve while she spoke to him with cold sarcasm.

Before that, she had thrown that bracelet into the trash...

As he flipped back through the pages of his memory, he found only arguments, cold shoulders, retreating figures, and silence.

For months, maybe even the better part of a year, they hadn't shared a single moment of normal, affectionate communication.

Daniel smiled, dropping one last truth bomb. "Mr. Huntington, in my opinion, the one living in a fantasy and refusing to face reality isn't Clara. It's you."
