As soon as we got back to the base we put all of our equipment back and made sure that the magazines were taken out of the guns and everything before we handed them back to the armory and then we headed to the mess hall.
We’d already missed breakfast but the cooks had made extra food when they knew that we were getting closer so we could still get a hot meal.
We all sat down and the others were asking about the mission, but none of us were talking too much.
Izzy was the one that was telling everyone what we saw. And they all started trying to figure out what it meant as well, but I honestly didn’t care right now.
I ate my breakfast quickly and then I headed back to the bunk house and we’d already been told to work out wherever we wanted this morning because Justin had to meet with Stevens and then they were going to see the researchers.
But I haven’t slept in two days, so as soon as I got back to the bunk house, I collapsed onto my bed feeling really exhausted.
It wasn’t long before Ben came into the bunk house as well and he laid on his bed next to me and started staring up at the ceiling like I was.
I was trying not to think about that mission and how I knew this was my chance to finally prove myself as a good soldier, only to find that there was no one there.
I was disappointed that I couldn’t prove that I belonged here. And now all I had was training again.
I must have fallen asleep at some point but it was only for a couple of hours.
When I got up I saw that Ben was gone, not sure where, but I went into the bathroom and washed my face and then headed outside of the bunk house.
I went to the shooting range and there were already a couple of people running through it.
So I stood at the entrance and got all my gear on and grabbed the gun, making sure that it had a full magazine in it.
When the people ahead of me finished, I heard the course resetting and then the red lights started flashing and it let off a loud sound for me to enter the course.
I ran through it at incredible speed. Faster than I had done before and I managed to hit every target and I avoided all of the innocents.
It wasn’t because I had done this course before, because they change it every day.
I couldn’t believe that I made it through so quickly and easily without any mistakes.
I knew that would look good on my record. They had cameras set up all around the course and they could see everything that we were doing.
“That’s a really good question. I want to talk to each and every one of you separately.” Stevens said.
“Wait a minute. You think that one of us tipped them off?” Derek asked.
“That’s what I’m about to find out. And you’re the first one I am going to talk to. The rest of you, wait in the hall.” Stevens ordered.
So we all walked out into the hall and I leaned against the wall facing that conference room but Justin closed the blinds so we couldn’t see inside.
“This is a fucking joke.” I said.
“What?” Alex asked.
“We’ve all worked our asses off to wipe out those monsters. Why the hell would we warn them that we were coming?” I asked.
“How do we know that you think they’re monsters? We don’t know you or where you’re from? Everyone knows that you’re an orphan. How do we know where your loyalties really lie?” Izzy asked.
“Fuck you bitch. If I wanted to turn on the Hunters then I would tell them exactly where to find you.” I snapped.
