“Alright. Let’s just walk away from her.” Ben said, grabbing my arm and pulling me down the other end of the hallway.
She had no right to accuse me of being a traitor. I’ve been so loyal to the Hunters and it’s all I know. I lived with people before I came to the army base, but I wasn’t with them for long. And they always made it clear that they weren’t my parents. They wouldn’t let me call them ‘mom’ or ‘dad’. So that was pretty obvious.
I wouldn’t betray the only family that I’ve ever known.
They called everyone in but left Ben and myself for last.
It got me thinking, do they think that it is one of us? I mean, we are the newest members of this base. They wouldn’t trust us like they trust the others.
They called Ben into the room first and I was left alone in the hallway with nothing but my thoughts to plague me. But I saw other Hunters running to a helicopter that was waiting for them and they loaded up and took off.
They were sending another group on a mission already. Before this was even sorted out. That was strange.
Ben seemed to be in the office for ages but I was so relieved when the door opened and he walked out and they called for me.
He just nodded at me to let me know that it’ll be alright and I walked inside the room.
I sat down and Stevens was looking through my file that was sent over from the other base.
“So, this was only your second mission.” Stevens said.
“Yes, sir.” I said.
“Why’s that?” He asked.
“I’m 16, sir. Usually they don’t allow anyone to go on missions until they are 18. But yourself and my old Captain must have thought that I have enough training to be able to handle myself.” I explained.
“I believe that you do have enough training. You seemed to do really good on that obstacle course yesterday. I’ve actually never seen you move so fast before.” Justin said. And I smirked at the thought.
“Well, that was a competition between myself and Eric. You know that. I was determined to not be shown up by a guy, sir.” I said.
“All of your scores are off the chart. You’ve never been accused of having anything to do with werewolves before. Actually, on your first mission you shot Luna Morgan. The strongest Luna in the country.” Stevens said.
“Well, that’s the best way to know if we’re being watched. Or if we have a spy.” I said.
“Exactly.” He said.
We were in the office for about an hour talking about the whole mission and going over everything to make sure we didn’t miss anything. But I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Everyone was doing exactly what they were supposed to be doing and they were all very professional.
Stevens got the call while I was still in the office and it only lasted for a couple of minutes before he hung up.
“What is it?” Justin asked.
“Same thing. The pack is completely deserted.” Stevens said, looking really confused.
“Where the hell are they going?” I asked. And he pointed his finger at me.
“Exactly. That’s what we need to find out and then we’ll know who’s behind this. You’re excused Lilly.” Stevens said as he was rushing out the door.
