Chapter 57
We walked off the stage and started walking around mingling with people. Nathan walked over and handed me a bottle of water, which I was really grateful for. But Maddy soon showed up and she took me away to introduce me to her friends.
I wasn’t too interested, because I wasn’t sure how long we would be friends for. But I guess, I could see where this was going to go. Maybe they will treat me differently from my old pack. I guess we’ll find out.
I was walking around talking to a lot of people and just mingling mostly. Not really talking to anyone for too long at a time.
I did want to learn as many pack members as I could. Since I was going to be seeing them all the time now.
Maddy made sure she introduced me to a lot of her friends, so I could make some friends. But most of them couldn’t get past the fact that I was living in the packhouse with the Alpha. I don’t know if they thought there was something going on between us or something, but it was of interest to them.
And it probably didn’t help that Nathan put together such a massive party for one person’s initiation. I know this isn’t the way it’s meant to go.
I looked over at one point and I see Ezra having an argument with some woman and he ends up grabbing her by the arm and dragging her away from the party. So she wouldn’t keep causing a scene.
He came back a few minutes later, alone. And it was time to have dinner.
I was sitting at the same table as Ezra and Nathan and then two older people came and sat at the table as well. They both looked awkward and the man looked like he really didn’t want to be here.
“Morgan. This is Owen and Jennifer. Our parents.” Ezra said, with just as little enthusiasm as their parents had.
“It’s nice to meet you.” I said. But Owen just grunted as he sat down.
“So, how did you convince my boys to throw such a massive party for a simple initiation?” Jennifer asked.
“I didn’t.” I said.
“It was my idea. Morgan has become like family to us and we love having her here. So, we wanted to make it special. She deserved it.” Nathan said.
“Why? Because she came here seeking asylum? Was your pack really that bad?” Owen asked.
“Yeah, it was.” I said.
“And what does your old Alpha think about this?” Owen asked.
“Don’t ever mention who your old Alpha is to my father. He’ll call that bastard and tell him where you are.” Ezra said, straight out in front of his parents.
“So, you ran away from the Alpha.” Owen smirked. “That can be punishable by death.” He continued.
“But that’s not going to happen because she’s under my protection now.” Ezra growled. And his father looked at him, very defiantly,
“Alright. So, how come your son is in charge instead of you?” I asked.
“What?” Owen snapped.

“Well, you were the Alpha and now your son is. You look pretty pissed about that. So, what did you do wrong to have the title stripped of you?” I asked, staring Owen in the face. And I could tell that Nathan was trying not to laugh. And Ezra was just staring at his father with an expectant look on his face.
Ezra was also waiting to see what his father said.
“That’s none of your business. Why the hell would I give a stranger confidential pack secrets?” He asked.
“That’s fine. I’ll just break into the office later and snoop around.” I smiled, getting back to my food.
“Are you going to allow this?” Owen snapped, looking at Ezra.
“I can’t stop what she does when I’m asleep.” Ezra said, trying not to laugh. And Owen looked back at me while I was getting back into my food.
