Chapter 29 Mind Control…

Ryder’s POV

“Bridget, drop to your knees.” The command scrapes out of me, jaw locked so tight it aches. One look at her and my control is already fraying-those wide, innocent eyes, that mouth made for trouble, her riot of brown curls catching the light, every curve daring me to take what’s mine.

She has been throwing signals at me since she passed out on me during the drive home. I wrote it off because she was out cold, and it was probably Mystique being her usual chaotic self.

But in the hospital room it started again-harder, clearer. Quick, obscene snapshots of sex, each one so specific I could feel it. Talon confirmed he had been talking to Mystique and checking on her during those exact moments, which meant the visions hadn’t been coming from her.

The doctor wanted Bridget to return to go over her bloodwork and results. I asked if it could wait until after the ball-as long as it wasn’t life-threatening. She deserves a few hours where she isn’t a patient, where she can just exist. If that’s what she wanted. Bridget agreed: tell her after the ball unless it was urgent. Dr. Yvette said it could wait.

The second “enjoy yourselves” left the doctor’s mouth Bridget sent me another flash.

Me. Her. Our hallway. Her back against the wall, my body pinning her there, her legs locked around my waist while I’m buried inside her. Claws out. My back shredded. Her voice begging for more.

I had made myself a promise in that instant: every image she has put in my head, I’m going to give her back. Whether she realized she was projecting or not. First, though, I needed to talk to my mate and find out what the hell was happening-because in that room, with everyone nearby, I could not smell her arousal at all. That part didn’t fit.

And for everyone else’s sake, thank the goddess. If Talon and had let the room full of wolves catch the scent of her, mated or not, we would have lost our minds. I had practically shoved people out the door as the flashes kept coming-closer together, rougher around the edges, like something feral was

waking up.

Now it’s just us.

I move toward her in a measured pace, watching for the smallest reaction. She hasn’t shifted from where she’s braced against my desk-my desk, the same place she had sent me a vision of her on my lap only minutes ago. In front of everyone. The things she wanted had taken every ounce of restraint

while I tried to keep order and keep peace between packs.

She doesn’t understand how deep her abilities run.

I can’t wait to show her.

Her wrap dress hugs her like it was made to be peeled off. The slit shows a stretch of golden-brown leg, up to the thigh I had been gripping beneath the desk during the meeting. A meeting we stopped, but didn’t finish. I still have to deal with Alpha Zachary-later. After the ball.

Right now, I’m meeting with the woman who owns my pulse.

“What? Ryder-what are you even saying?” Bridget’s words stumble, and her breath starts to speed up. Like she genuinely doesn’t know what she has been doing. Or like she knows just enough to be

nervous.

She’s still growing into all of this. It’s new. She’s my mate, and I’m going to communicate with her, clearly, always. She deserves that.

But the way she has been teasing me-stuffing my head with her body wrapped around mine-has pushed me to the edge.

“Oh, sweet Luna.” I draw her away from the desk until she’s standing in front of me. Then I circle her, slow and deliberate, letting her feel that she’s being hunted. She is going to be my greatest conquest.

And I hope-moon goddess, I hope-I’m going to be hers.

“Someone has been very busy,” I murmur.

“I’m… confused?” she says, and it’s a lie. Her body tells on her. Not with the usual heat-slick scent-yet

–but with the way her breathing turns shallow and her skin stipples with goosebumps.

“I’m your mate, Bridget.” I step in close enough that my voice lands against her. “I’m here to give you

what you want. I’m not going to leave you craving more.”

I move behind her.

“Shoe. Please.”

She takes my offered arm and slips off the first camel-colored heel, placing it in my hand. I watch her

height drop back to her normal five-foot-eight-shorter than most wolves. She removes the second the

same way, and I set both shoes down.

I’m crouched near her bare feet, then I rise behind her, dragging the smallest graze of my body along the line of her dress-just enough contact to spark friction.

“Ryder… I don’t know what you think happened, but-uhm.” Her sentence breaks when I sweep her hair

off her neck.

I breathe there, soft and claiming, right where I want to mark her the second she asks.

“My breathtaking little siren,” I whisper, mouth brushing her skin. “You don’t know what you’ve been

doing to me, do you?”

I kiss up the column of her neck, and her head tips back, giving me more. Her breathing turns ragged,

needy.

“You’re going to use your words,” I tell her, firm. “I don’t care if they come out quiet, or if you shout them. Anything we do happens with your approval. Understood?”

I come around to face her again. Her lips are full, soft, impossible. I trace my thumb across her bottom

lip.

“Goddess, you’re beautiful,” I say, and it’s more a confession than a compliment.

“Thank you.” She looks up at me with that sweet little smile-and then she bites at my finger, quick and playful.

“Safe word,” I say. “You need one. You won’t be able to say it soon, so pick it now. Do you

understand?”

Her brows pinch. “Why wouldn’t I be able to say it?” The confidence wobbles.

“You might be too full to speak.”

I turn away from her and loosen my tie, forcing air into my lungs. I want her in ways that make me feel unhinged. My hand lands on the doorknob.

I’m ready to end it right here, call it a night, take an ice-cold shower, and hold her until morning if that’s what she needs. I’ll wait as long as it takes.

“If you’re not ready, babe, it’s fine,” I tell her without looking back. “I got carried away. I’ll wait forever.”

“Ask me again.” Her voice comes out steady-hungry, bold. No hint of her wolf, just her. Wanting.

I stay still, make her sit in the silence for a few seconds. Power has its own rhythm.

I draw in a slow breath. I can feel her aura. And now-finally-I can smell it: the sweet, intoxicating proof of her arousal. She is the most delicious thing I have ever tasted.

“Get. On. Your. Knees.”

When I turn, she’s already there.

Kneeling.

Eyes bright, fixed on me with desire and trust that hit me straight in the chest. How did I end

up

with

her?

I close the distance. At seven feet tall, broad as sin, I blot out her view until she’s directly in front of my crotch. I’m so hard it feels like my slacks can barely contain me.

“Take him out,” I order, hands settling on my hips to keep myself from grabbing her too soon. I want to

touch her everywhere-fist in her hair, palm on her cheek, that electric snap where our skin meets.

She cranes her neck to look up at my face while her slim fingers work my buckle, then the zipper. Her

hand strokes me through my boxer briefs, and I swear to the goddess if she so much as wets her lips

again, I’m going to lose the last shred of patience I have.

She leans in and kisses me through the fabric, eyes tipped up to mine, and all I can do is breathe- breathe-because tossing her onto my desk and driving into her until she can’t remember her own name would be the easiest thing in the world.

But this is her fantasy. Her projection. Her picture that I’m stepping into.

I’m her vessel.

And I’m going to give her what she asked for.

She pulls me free, and my cock springs hard in her hand. Her fingers wrap around me with certainty, and she drags her tongue over her bottom lip.

Every inch of me is aching to be inside her.

Every inch is ready to claim her.
