Chapter 31 Morning, Before the Sun
Bridget’s POV

Before dawn has even decided to show its face, Mystique is already wide awake-buzzing inside my skull like she’s had a gallon of caffeine.
‘That was unreal. I need Talon alone again. I swear I can feel their power flooding through us-tell me you feel it too. How are you not losing your mind?’
‘I’d be thrilled if you’d let me sleep long enough to be a functioning person. It’s still dark. Go rest.’
‘Guards are circling. Perimeter is secure. Kitchen staff is starting breakfast. Training begins in one
hour,’ Mystique rattles off. Then her tone sharpens with purpose. ‘So if we’re going to get more of our
mate before training… wake him.’
That single suggestion snaps me fully awake.
With Ryder’s mark on me, I’m already realizing I can pull the same pack intel he hears. So what does he get through mine? The thought barely has time to settle because I’m draped over him-naked, warm, and still sore in the best way-my cheek on his chest like I belong there.
He’s had me four more times during the night. Every time, I’ve loved it. The last time I woke him, I rode his mouth until my whole body shook-then he rolled me over and took me again like he couldn’t stand the distance of a single breath between us. When he bites my mark while he’s inside me, I lose my mind. Just remembering the feel of him makes me clamp my thighs together.
I’ve tried more than once to slide off and lie beside him, but he won’t allow it. Something about him getting agitated if Talon is too far. All I know is he stays hard, and the second my leg shifts, he’s
pressing back in like he’s been waiting for the excuse.
Honestly? If it’s a scheme, my body is happily cooperating.
“If you two don’t settle down,” Ryder murmurs, voice rough with sleep, “I’m going to have to take you
again.”
“You can hear her too?” I ask. He’s still got his eyes closed, but his arm tightens around me like a
reflex.
“No. Talon can,” he answers, breathy and amused. “And now she can give you every piece of pack
information I hear?”
“Yeah,” I say, shifting my chin on his chest-slowly letting my thigh slide higher. “It’s insane.”
I let the silence stretch just enough for him to feel what I’m doing.

“And,” I add, softer, “I’m really glad we finally did this. I’m going to need a lot more of you, sir. Just so
we’re clear.”
His chuckle rolls through him, vibrating into my bones. I rake my nails down his side, deliberately.
“I promise,” he says, voice dropping, “I’ll thoroughly fuck you every day.”
My breath catches. “That might be the hottest sentence I’ve ever heard. Take me, Alpha.”
I swing my leg over him like I’m joking, but Ryder’s hands clamp on my thighs and lift me higher as he
sits up.
“Don’t offer your Alpha something you can’t handle, baby,” he says.
His cock is already rock-hard, pressed along my ass and up my back as I straighten.
“Then maybe you should teach me,” I tease, lifting myself just enough to line him up. When the head meets my entrance, I roll my hips slowly, using my wetness to let only that much in.
His eyes go black.
His grip locks onto my hips, and he drives me down in one brutal, perfect motion-every inch, all at once. I cry out like I can’t help it, sound spilling up toward the ceiling.
I brace on my knees and start riding him hard, like the only way to survive is to keep moving. Ryder takes control immediately, hands guiding my hips, forcing each bounce deeper, rougher. He’s so thick it makes me dizzy. I still can’t believe I managed him down my throat, and the memory has me
salivating before I can stop it.
He palms my breasts and switches between them, squeezing and biting-marking me again, leaving more proof of him on my skin. I’ve been covered since last night: bruising handprints on my ass, fresh bites in places I won’t be able to hide. I’ve carved my own evidence into his back too, but his wolf has
already healed most of it smooth.
He flips me fast.
Now my head is near the headboard, and he’s driving into me from above with ruthless force while I
hook my arms under his shoulders and hold on.
“Yes-Ryder,” I moan against his ear, then fick the line of his neck.
He pulls away sharply, shaking his head.
I freeze, breath stalling. Why is he stopping me? Why won’t he let me mark him-does he regret this already?

“Not until we talk to the doctor,” he grits out, thrusting again without mercy. “No regrets. None. I just want you to know everything about you.”
My throat tightens, tears threatening. I don’t know whether I want to love him for being careful or hate him for making me wait.
Either way, my body chooses for me.
I shatter with an orgasm, and Ryder follows a heartbeat later. We come undone together, collapsing
into the mess of each other.
Evelyn’s POV
‘It’s our birthday! Happy birthday to us!’
The voice in my head is so cheerful it makes me smile before my eyes are even fully open. I stretch across my plush king-sized bed, sinking into layers of white sheets and thick comforters until I feel like royalty buried alive.
‘Good morning,’ I answer silently, amused. ‘And… what do I call you?’
‘I’m Aurora. It’s really nice to finally meet you, Evelyn,’ she says, practically bouncing. ‘Can we go find
our mate now?’
‘As much as I’d love to wander the castle hunting for prince charming,’ I think back, ‘my mom will be at my door in three… two…’
“Knock, knock, sleepy head!” Mom sings, right on cue, letting herself in. “Up and shining. You have an entire day of duties before your birthday festivities, starting with a proper bath. I’ll have the staff draw it with rose petals and special herbs. We’ll keep everything., tight.”
“Mom,” I groan, “I’m a virgin. It literally cannot get any tighter.”\
“Language,” she snaps automatically, then waves a hand like she’s swatting a fly. “And it can’t hurt to make sure everything is intact. These men claim they’re progressive until you show them one kink and suddenly they’re asking who corrupted you. Honestly.”
“Mom!” I laugh so hard I nearly roll off the bed.
She laughs too, then I pat the mattress beside me until she comes closer.
“I got my wolf,” I tell her, still grinning. “Her name is Aurora.”
Her face softens instantly. “Oh, sweetheart. We can’t wait to meet her. I’m sure she’s as stunning as
you.”

“Do you think we’ll get to run tonight?” I ask. On a full moon the whole pack usually shifts and runs- especially for the newly awakened wolves. It’s beautiful. It feels like belonging.
“I don’t know,” Mom admits. “It might be overcast. Within the next three days, we’ll have a full moon. Either way… imagine if you find your mate.”
The thought knots my stomach.
“What if he’s from another pack,” I whisper, “and expects me to drop out of college and move away?”
Mom’s voice turns warm, calm-the soothing aura she always carries wrapping around my panic.
“And what if he’s here,” she counters, “and loves you exactly as you are, and wants what you want?”
I exhale. She always does that-finds the right words like it’s nothing.
I’m still learning what my own gift is. I know it’s vision-related. I get flashes, clipped scenes that rarely
connect until later.
“Now,” Mom says briskly, standing, “bath. Your friends will be here soon, and I need to go pry Bridget out from under your brother so the poor girl can remember how to breathe. Everyone’s spending today with you, birthday girl.”
“Yes, Mom,” I say, sliding toward the bathroom. “And good luck-he shoved us out of his office so fast
yesterday I almost got whiplash.”
Half an hour later, I’m soaking with cucumbers over my eyes, trying not to spiral.
Connor crosses my mind again-too often. I want to mind-link him, but I force myself to wait. If he’s my mate, it’ll happen. He can’t hide forever.
“Well, hello there, hot momma,” Sienna’s voice cuts in. “Ready to get that cherry popped tonight?”
I snatch one cucumber off my face. Sienna plucks the other away like she owns it-then eats it.
She’s smiling when Archer steps in behind her.
“Happy birthday!” they sing together.
“Thanks,” I say, sitting up. “I’m relaxed, I’m clean, and I am fully prepared to take advantage of someone’s son.” I whisper the last part like wolves don’t hear everything anyway.
We all crack up.
Alicia, my helper, appears with a towel, but Archer takes it from her.
“I’ve got her, Ali-thank you,” Archer says, holding it up.

Nudity never feels awkward with us. It’s just skin.
“Thanks,” I tell her, wrapping myself and drying my hair. “Also? I’m starving.”
“Did you meet your wolf yet?” Archer asks, leaning against the counter.

“Yes,” I say, grinning. “Aurora. She’s very talkative-well, she was earlier. Maybe she’s sleeping now.” I pretend to sound casual as I add, “Have you seen anyone around this morning?”
Archer’s brows lift. “Connor? No. Not at all. Which is weird-I thought he’d be climbing the walls outside your door. But maybe he got pulled into assignments with the King and Queen visiting.” She smirks. “Or maybe our future Alpha has been busy doing the horizontal mating dance with his mate now that it finally happened.”
We’re heading into my bedroom when we find Bridget sprawled right across my bed like she’s been dropped there. She looks wrecked-completely, beautifully exhausted.
“We were every which way but horizontal,” Bridget mutters, arm draped over her eyes, smiling.
The girls howl with laughter.
Then my brain catches up.
My brother.
“Ew,” I say automatically.
That makes them laugh harder.
“How was it?” Sienna demands.
“Was it everything?” Archer presses.
“Bridget,” I warn, “do not answer sex questions while I’m in the room. I can handle a lot. But details about my brother and my friend? Absolutely not.”
Bridget is fighting a grin-losing.
Then I notice Sienna’s hands moving, gesturing wildly. I look up just in time to see Bridget spreading her hands far apart.
The implication hits.
“Bridget Diana!”
I launch a pillow at her head.

She dodges with a speed I’ve never seen from her-and catches it midair.
We all go still.
“Okay,” Archer says, eyes huge. “That’s new.”

“So is this,” Sienna adds, stepping in and turning Bridget’s head to expose her neck. “Someone got
marked.”
“Oh my God,” I breathe, sitting down with them. “Do you feel different?”
Bridget nods, finally pushing her arm off her eyes. “Yeah. My wolf feels… tied into the pack now. It’s
insane.”
The door opens again-Mom, this time, followed by several women ready to run the day.
“Ladies,” Mom says, all business, “breakfast is ready. Evelyn, you need to be dressed. Then we eat,
hair, and makeup, and photos in the garden. Busy day. Move, move.”
She herds the girls out, then stops short when she sees Bridget’s neck.
I swear Mom already knew.
Still, she goes quiet. Bridget goes quiet too.
No speeches. No questions.
Mom just steps in and hugs her.
It’s so simple it makes my chest ache.
Bridget had no family before us.
Now she does.
And she’s never going to be without one again-because we’re her tribe, and we’re staying.
