Chapter 66 – Cake and a Shooting Star…
Bridget’s POV
It is my birthday party, and the club lights look like glowing planets drifting in the dark. orbiting close enough to touch. We’ve had a huge caramel cake-Ryder swears it tastes
like me. It was incredible. I’ve never had anything like it.
I’ve had a few drinks, and Ryder has been keeping a careful eye on me while still letting
me enjoy myself. I’m tipsy, yes, but I am also fully aware of everything around me. It’s
unsettling how clear I feel. I never drink, yet the alcohol seems to sharpen my other gifts
instead of dulling them.
My nose, for one. I can smell when someone has another species threaded into them—
sometimes when they don’t even realize it themselves. Archer carries witch somewhere
in her bloodline, a few generations back. Beatrix, who I basically dragged out with us,
isn’t witch or vampire at all. She has lycan running through her. That might explain how
she holds her own so easily in a fight. I don’t think she knows.
Ryder, of course, has witch Chapter Unlocked, Enjoy Reading! itch than he does, while he has more Alpha power. And Montgomery… he’s like me in the sense that he’s a blend. Werewolf, bear, witch. A complicated cocktail.
Then there’s Connor.
With him, something feels off-like my senses are noticing him for the first time. I can
tell he has Alpha blood and witch too, but there’s something else layered over him. A
cover. A veil. I’m too new at this to name it properly, but it’s there.
Maybe it explains why he has been acting different since I have been here. Did me
stepping into my abilities trigger something in him? I’ll have to ask an elder, or maybe
Sorceress Violet. She never dodges my questions.
“Are you having fun, Bridget?” Ryder asks.
We are standing in the VIP area, looking down at the dance floor. His arms are locked
around my waist, and he’s breathing me in at my neck like he needs my scent in his
lungs. I reach back, thread my fingers through his hair, and tug him closer.
I turn and kiss him.

“This has been the best birthday I can remember,” I tell him. “Thank you, Ryder.”
He pulls me in tighter, like he’s anchoring me to him.
“I’d move heaven and earth for you.”
I face him fully. His eyes darken-Talon rising close.
“I love how much you love me,” I whisper.
And then noise snaps through the moment-shouting, scraping, the crash of glass.
Before I can even turn my head, Ryder is already moving, shifting his body to block mine
and pushing me behind him.
“What the hell is going on?” he roars.
I peek around him. A table has been overturned. Bottles are shattered across the floor. Montgomery and Connor are squared up, tense and ready, like a fight is one breath
away.
I frown. They don’t have beef like that.
Then I catch Connor’s gaze.
He isn’t even looking at Montgomery. He’s staring past him-straight at the dance floor,
where Evelyn is dancing with Alpha Patrick.
I roll my eyes. Of course. Connor has had a thing for her. Watching his cousin show
interest must have made it real in a way he couldn’t ignore.
And judging by the look on his face… it hit hard.
“Apologies, Alpha. Luna,” Connor says quickly. “I thought I saw something. It was
nothing-just my imagination. I’ll do a perimeter check myself.”
“I’ll go with him, Alpha,” Montgomery adds, stepping in. “Please. Don’t let us mess up
your night.”
Ryder’s voice drops so low that anyone without wolf hearing would miss it. “This is
bullshit. Tomorrow, I want both of you in my office. You will explain. Understood?”
“Yes, Alpha,” they answer together.
They leave the VIP area. Ryder watches Connor go, jaw tight, then shakes his head.

“I don’t know what the hell is happening with him,” Ryder mutters, “but tomorrow he’s going to tell me.”
He exhales. I slide my arms around his waist from the side, pressing in.
“You’ll figure it out,” I say. “You always do.”
My fingers trail up his chest while I scan the room and spot my security detail.
“Babe,” I say, “can we give Iron Fang and my guys the rest of the night off? They work
nonstop keeping me safe. They deserve to actually enjoy themselves.”
“Yeah, of course.” He pauses, amused. “Although I doubt Iron Fang is going anywhere.
He’s basically tethered himself to you. Respectfully.”
“I know,” I say, “but he needs the chance to find his mate. He could get a second shot at
happiness, and staying glued to me won’t help him find her… or him.”
Ryder smiles and kisses me.
“That’s exactly why you’ll be an incredible Luna,” he says. “You genuinely care about our
people. Once we do the ceremony, you’ll be bound to the pack, and we’ll be official-
Alpha and Luna. Are you ready?”
“I think I am,” I admit. “Is it arrogant to say that? I just… I feel like my heart is in the right
place. And I know I’m where I’m supposed to be. Right beside you.”
His eyes heat. “Keep talking like that and I’ll have the ceremony tonight. Then we
celebrate in our room until morning.”
I laugh at how hungry he looks.
“Well, just so you know,” I say, leaning closer, “I’ll have you mark me before the
ceremony ever happens.”
“Bridget…” he starts.
“…and afterward,” I continue, “we can rehearse our private celebration as often as
possible until the real day. What do you think, Alpha?”
I push my power into him-planting a vivid image in his head. Us in the labyrinth. Naked.
Shameless.
But then something flashes back at me.

A vision of Ryder with me bent over his knee, his palm striking, my voice begging for
more.
I blink, startled, and look at him.
“Looks like you’re picking up more of my gifts every day,” he says, smiling like he knows
exactly what I saw.
“God, you’re full of surprises,” I murmur.
“Come here,” he says. “I want to show you something.”
He takes my hand and guides me out of VIP. As we move through the massive club-
black walls, pulsing music-he mind-links my detail and tells them to stand down for
the night.
We stop at an elevator, ride up, and step onto the rooftop.
Out there is a seating area I didn’t know existed.
“I had this built for you,” Ryder says. “Sit. With me.”
I sink onto a plush cream sectional beside him. He pulls me close until I’m fitted to his
side. A staffer appears with a silver tray and a domed cover, then lifts it to reveal fruit
and cheeses arranged beautifully.
“This is… wow,” I breathe. “You didn’t have to do all this. And this view-Ryder, it’s so
calm up here. We’re in the city, but it feels hidden.”
Beyond the rooftops, buildings peek through a spread of trees. A month ago, I was alone
in a way that hurt. Now I have a whole family.
“Look up,” Ryder says.
He tips my chin, and I lean back.
The sky is packed with stars-so many it looks unreal. No clouds. A full moon hangs
high, bright enough to paint everything in silver.
“This is the most beautiful sky I’ve ever seen,” I tell him.
“I planned all of it,” he says, voice low. “Even that shooting star.”
He points.

Right then, a streak of light cuts across the sky.
I grin, because he’s ridiculous in the best way.
“Wow,” I say. “Planning celestial events now? I didn’t realize you were that powerful, Alpha.”
He laughs, reaching for a bottle and two glasses I hadn’t noticed. He pours champagne. When he hands me both, I bring them to my nose-checking, automatically. Clean. No poison.
He takes one back from me and lifts his glass.
“A toast,” Ryder says. “This life with you is a gift. There will be stress and drama, and there will be joy and love-but no matter what, I will fight to end every day with you smiling. To our future, Bridget. I’m grateful you found your way here.”
“So am I,” I say.
We clink glasses and finish them. I pluck grapes and feed him, and he answers by offering me strawberries-so ripe they burst with juice.
I lean forward to refill our glasses, but Ryder’s hands clamp onto my hips and pull me onto his lap.
I tilt the bottle to my mouth and drink. Champagne slips down my chin. I reach to wipe it, but he catches my wrist and shakes his head.
He leans in and licks it off-slow. My bottom lip, my chin, then lower, his eyes never leaving mine.
Need crashes through me.
He unzips the front of my corset. My breasts lift with my breath, aching for his mouth. He doesn’t tease long-he grips both and kisses, sucks, marks. Heat zips through me in bright sparks, pooling between my thighs. I can feel how hard he is even through his slacks, trapped and demanding.
I roll my hips against him.
He bites my breast, and my moan says his name.
I grab the bottle again and pour champagne over my chest on purpose.

His grip tightens. He drags his tongue over my skin, collecting every drop like it belongs to him. I unzip him, freeing him from his slacks. I shove my panties aside and sink down. onto him-full, tight, even now.
“Oh, Bridget,” he groans, his voice blending with Talon’s.
I ride him like I need air, my hands gripping the back of the sectional. Ryder holds my
hips, forcing me down harder, each thrust deeper and more brutal in the sweetest way.
I don’t know if it is the cold night air, the full moon overhead, or whatever wish I made on
that shooting star, but my orgasm hits like a wave breaking. I squirt, shaking.
Ryder growls, yanks me close, and marks me again-teeth sinking in-sending me
straight into another climax.
“Oh goddess!” I cry.
His hands are so rough I know bruises are coming. He drives into me-deeper,
impossibly deep. My canines start to lengthen. Mystique rises with me, and together we grab Ryder’s head and pull him aside. My heart is racing too fast to count.
I bite.
My teeth sink into his neck.
My vision whites out. His grip locks down, and then-like a switch-our heartbeats snap into sync. He moans my name and spills inside me, thick and hot. I feel everything: every pulse, every breath, every push of him as he marks me from within.
His blood on my tongue tastes like the best thing I have ever had.
He takes from my bite too, and the exchange makes me come again, clinging to him, refusing to let go. Mystique won’t release him either. Something is happening between us-something new-and it feels too good to interrupt.
He comes again, body trembling, and my orgasm trembles with it.
The world goes silent. No music. No city. Just our breathing, our bodies, the thud of that
shared rhythm.
When we finally separate, we lick at the fresh bite marks, sealing them.

I rest my head on his shoulder while we breathe together.
“What just happened?” I whisper, eyes closing.
Ryder answers inside my head.
‘I think the Omni-Wolf picked her mate.’
I open my eyes. “Are you okay with that?”
“Absolutely.”
