How did I miss that Connor had been carrying something like this? I noticed he’d been
off, sure. I chalked it up to the usual-women, drama, whatever.
But a year. He had been dodging it for a full year.
And the worst part wasn’t even the secret itself. It was that he didn’t feel like he could
come to me. That’s on him… and it’s on me.
Then there was my little stunt-dangling his title in front of him like I’d hand it to Montgomery. I hadn’t planned to follow through, but still. Calling his bluff like that?
Yeah. I’d been a real asshole.
“Stop tearing yourself apart,” Bridget says, settling beside me on the couch in my office.
“I can practically hear your thoughts sprinting.”
After the talk with Connor, we’d paused before going down to the cells. I needed air in
my head. Bridget has always been the one I bounce things off.
“I’m just… stunned,” I admit. “He didn’t come to me once. A whole year, Bridge. He has
been running from it for a whole year.”
Bridget lifts her tea, calm as ever. “He didn’t want anyone getting hurt. And you know the two of you-stubborn doesn’t even cover it. You would’ve tried to shoulder the
whole mess alone, too.”
“Maybe.” I rake a hand through my hair. “But he’s family.”
“Which is exactly why we keep this contained,” she says, confidence sitting on her like a
crown. “Only the people in that room. We solve it together.”
I watch her for a beat, still trying to get used to how steady she looks when things get.
ugly.
“How did you even know?” I ask. “About Connor?”
Bridget’s gaze drifts, pulling up the memory. “Last night at the club, I saw something on
him. Not physical-more like a veil. A kind of shadow, a cloud. It didn’t belong there. Like

She takes another small sip. “So I asked Violet to meet with me. She saw it too. She said
it’s a gift only some seers have. Apparently her daughter spotted it on Connor
immediately.”
“So they have been working on breaking it,” I say, putting the pieces together.
Bridget nods.
“Tell Violet she can use our spell room,” I say. “Her own lock, her own key. Any time. Day
or night.”
I finish my water in one pull and toss the bottle. The restlessness is back in my limbs. “I
need to get to the cells. Ingrid. I’m done wasting hours.”
Bridget sets her tea down. “Want me with you?”
I hesitate for half a second, then decide. “Yeah. Let’s do it together. Afterward I’ll walk
you to that lunch with Nikolai and Lord Jude.”
I stand and take her hand, and she immediately looks at my neck.
“How do you feel?” she asks softly. “Different?”
Her fingers trace the mark, and my skin reacts like it’s remembering her touch in a new
language.
“Sharper,” I tell her. “Everything’s louder. Clearer. Talon says he feels stronger. Reflexes,
speed-better. And we were already the best.”
Bridget laughs under her breath. “Good. The power still hasn’t made you unbearable,
Alpha.”
“Just honest,” I say, smiling. “I don’t see what you see yet, but I’m barely twenty-four
hours into whatever these gifts are. I’m going to let it unfold. And no-I have absolutely
no regrets.”
“Good,” she says, then her expression firms. “Now let’s move. And remember-fewer
people who know what you can do, the better. Same goes for me.”
“Agreed.”
Out in the hall, my men are already waiting. Lucas. Pierce. Connor. Montgomery,

“Sorry, Alpha,” Montgomery says without looking up. “Recon mission just came in. I need to take it.”
“Go,” I tell him. “We’ve got it.”
Everyone greets Bridget as we head out. Beatrix falls in with us before we go down.
The second we step into the sphere, Ingrid straightens in her restraints, eyes bright with that poisonous interest.
“Well, look at that,” she says, forcing swagger she doesn’t quite have anymore. Losing her power is starting to show-like a candle burning down to nothing. “VIP visitors. So
we’re finally moving things along.”
She tilts her head. “Tell me what it’s like up there. I’ve been buried down here so long, I
don’t even know what day it is.”
Bridget doesn’t blink. “We’re not playing. I’m here for minutes, not hours. You can tell me
what I need the easy way, or we can do it the other way.”
Ingrid’s smile turns filthy. “Depends what you consider a good time, Luna. You’re a
legend, you know. Stories get told about you.”
Bridget’s voice stays even. “Then we’ll do it the difficult way.”
She steps behind Ingrid, sets her palms on either side of Ingrid’s head, and starts
chanting.
Light blooms across the room, a hard, pulsing glow that makes my eyes sting. I’ve
watched Bridget’s power grow, but this-this feels like watching something wake up.
Ingrid screams.
Her head jerks as if something unseen is yanking her side to side. The chair holds her,
straps biting into her wrists and shoulders, and still her body lifts as far as the restraints
allow.
Blood slips from her nose.
“Stop-please!” she shrieks.
Too late.

she should have been ended. She tried to kill my sister. There’s no forgiveness for that.
Only payment.
Bridget keeps pulling-dragging whatever she wants straight from Ingrid’s mind. Blood starts leaking from Ingrid’s ears, then her eyes. The glow in her skin dims, as if someone
is siphoning out the last of her light.
And it looks like Bridget is taking it.
Then it snaps off as suddenly as it started.
Ingrid slumps forward, empty.
Dr. Kira steps in immediately, checking vitals out of habit more than hope.
Bridget exhales like she’s just finished a task, not ended a life. “Eloise Beaumont,” she
says. “That’s who she did it for.”
She turns to me, already moving on. “I have a lunch date. Ryder-will you escort me?”
“Always.”
I look to my men. “Connor, Pierce-dispose of the body when Dr. Kira’s done. Lucas,
work that name with Violet. I want everything you can find.”
As we walk out, Connor hits me through the link.
‘Your mate is pretty freaking badass.’
I send back the only truth I’ve got.
‘Yeah.’
I’d worried killing would scar her. Instead, she looks energized-like a wolf pup after its
first hunt.
“That was incredible,” I tell her as we head up. “Did you walk in knowing you could do
that? Or that you would?”
“Not at all,” she says. “When I stepped into that room, Mystique was guiding me. She
showed me what we could try.”
“You never run out of ways to shock me,” I say. “You did it like you’ve been interrogating

“Perfect,” Nikolai says, nodding as if he’d felt us coming. “I sensed you approaching.
Alpha.”
“I appreciate you being here,” I tell him.
He gives a small, knowing look. “And I appreciate the chance, too.”
Bridget loops her arm through his, teasing. “I’d rather Ryder not sit around worrying. If
me showing up keeps his head calm, great. Also, you two need me there to save you
from awkward silences.”
She smiles brightly. “I’m starving. Let’s sit.”
“Ah,” Lord Jude calls as he joins us. “The whole gang’s here.”
We shake hands, and right then Lucas pings me with a mind-link-already pulling
threads.
I lean in and kiss Bridget. “I’m needed in a meeting. I’ll keep you updated. Enjoy lunch,
my love. I’ll see you later.”
Iron Fang positions himself behind her chair without being told, another warrior close by.
I leave them at the table and move through the pack house. The place is alive with
motion-people arriving, plans stacking on plans. Over the next few days the coronation
will turn this whole territory into a crowded, vibrating hive.
I can’t wait until Bridget is officially ours for the world to see.
We have already marked each other. Her power already lets her listen in on pack
business-or any mind-links-whenever she chooses.
And it’s getting stronger every day.
I just watched her drain the life out of a witch and then pivot straight into lunch like it
was nothing. There’s an ocean of power in her that hasn’t even been fully touched.
Thank the elders for continuing her training.

But when we step inside, we find my father already there.
Beta Curtis stands with him, both waiting like they own the air.
“Lucas filled you in?” I ask as I sit behind my desk.
My father’s brow lifts. “I’m still stuck on the part where Luna Bridget drained a witch’s
life.”
I give them the full rundown-Ingrid, the extraction, and the name Bridget tore out of her
mind.
Beta Curtis frowns as he repeats it under his breath. “Eloise Beaumont… I don’t know
why that sounds familiar. I’ll dig through my contacts too.”
“Do it,” I tell him. “Thank you.”
I look around the room at the men who keep this pack standing. “The faster we figure
out what this is, the faster we shut this chapter. Then we can get the festivities
underway.”
We will find the people tied to it.
And everyone connected will pay.
