The Omni-Wolf’s Choice novel Chapter 87

Chapter 87 Back into the dark…

Bridget’s POV

Darkness presses in from every direction. The air reeks of damp and rot, and somewhere

nearby a pipe keeps ticking out water-drip, drip, drip-like a metronome counting

down.

There isn’t a window. Not even a crack of daylight. I’m on a narrow cot that’s seen better

centuries; the mattress is thin, and the metal springs jab through it to punish every

breath I take.

I try to shift. Nothing. My wrists and ankles are cinched down, straps biting into skin. The

bed answers my struggle with a sharp squeal of iron.

My neck throbs. The exact spot where the needle went in burns like a bruise with teeth.

I reach for my wolf.

‘Mystique… are you there?”

Silence. Not even an echo.

Cold fear crawls up my spine. What did he inject me with? What if it didn’t just knock me out-what if it severed her? What if it kills her? And if I can’t reach my wolf… how the

hell am I supposed to reach Ryder?

No. Stop.

I drag in air, forcing my lungs to obey. One breath. Another. Survival training isn’t just

drills; it’s for moments like this. I can panic later-if I live long enough to have a later.

Ryder will tear the world open looking for me. I just have to hold on long enough for him

to get here.

On my third slow inhale, footsteps scrape down the hall.

A pause. A presence at the door.

The heavy wood swings inward, and the lights snap on. My eyes sting from the sudden

glare.

“Up you go, beautiful. Look at that-awake already.”

King Griffin strolls in like he owns not only the room, but the air in it. I squint, scanning

what I can: bare walls, stone, the cot, the restraints. Exactly what my instincts had been

screaming.

“Why am I here?” I keep my voice soft, controlled. “What do you want from me?”

He smiles as if I’ve offered him a compliment. “I want you, Bridget. You’re going to be my mate. Together, we’ll take everything. No species will be able to stop us-your power.

my mind.” His eyes gleam with sick pride. “And I need an heir.”

My stomach flips. The idea of carrying anything of his inside me makes bile climb my

throat.

“You already have a mate,” I say, and a spring digs into my thigh. I test my hand-and

realize I can move it enough to touch the metal.

“Oh, she’s irrelevant.” He waves it away. “A witch’s spell convinced her she was mine. I used what she could do. She led me straight to you.” His voice drops, reverent and hungry. “The Omni-Wolf I have been waiting for my entire life. I knew you were meant to

be mine. I knew I’d get you.”

He leans closer, dragging a finger down my cheek.

I hold still, fighting the impulse to jerk away.

His touch continues-past my throat, across the top of my gown, over the curve of my

breasts.

I recoil.

His expression hardens instantly. “Don’t you dare act above me. You will belong to me.

You’ll beg for it. Do you understand?”

He grabs my face, his grip brutal, fingers digging in hard enough to promise bruises. “I

waited too long to be denied. I always get what I want.”

My jaw aches under his hand.

“And don’t bother trying your tricks,” he continues, voice thick with satisfaction. “This cell is magic-proof. Your special talents won’t work here. Once you’re trained-docile, obedient-maybe I’ll allow you upstairs. This is our home until we’re ready to take the

world. And until you’re ready to give me an heir.”

“This won’t work,” I spit, keeping my eyes on his. “Ryder will come.”

Griffin’s smile returns, slow and cruel. “Then you’ll watch me kill your mate. After that,

you’ll mark me. Everything will settle into its proper place.”

“No.” My voice snaps. “I will never let that happen. I am not your property, and we are

not having children!”

The slap lands like thunder.

My head whips to the side. Metal floods my mouth. My lip splits, and blood slides warm.

over my tongue.

His tone turns silky. “Honor me as your mate, or die. Simple choice. Rot in a cell… or live

in my suite while I do everything I’ve ever imagined doing to your body.”

His hands clamp onto my breasts again as I twist away.

Another slap.

I taste blood a second time and force a laugh through the pain. “That all you’ve got?

Hitting a woman strapped to a bed?” I glare at him. “I’ve taken worse than you. You can’t break me. I never even healed right in the first place. Nothing you do changes who I am.”

“I’ll fight you until I’m dead.”

His eyes light up. “That fire… oh, I’ll enjoy extinguishing it night after night.” He leans in,

inhaling at my neck like I’m a meal. “I can’t wait until your mate is gone, so your scent

becomes my second-chance mate.”

“You’re insane.” My voice shakes with fury. “I won’t be anyone’s second chance. But I will

kill you. Slowly, painfully-by my hands.”

He hums, amused. “I love hearing you threaten me, Bridget.”

Then he bites down on my shoulder.

Pain flashes white-hot. Teeth puncture skin, leaving a mark I can feel throbbing

immediately.

I swallow my scream. I will not give him that.

He shifts like he’s about to kiss me.

I take the opening and slam my head into his.

Bone cracks against bone. He jerks back with a snarl, and blood wells on his forehead

where I split him open.

“You stupid bitch!”

His hands fly to my throat.

He climbs over me, straddling my hips, squeezing until air becomes a distant concept.

My vision tunnels. He watches my panic like it’s entertainment, like he’s savoring each

second.

Just as black spots bloom, he releases me.

I suck in air, coughing.

He wipes his own blood with his thumb, then smears it across my cheek like a brand.

“I’m going to have you cleaned up,” he says, straightening his clothes as if he’s merely finished a meeting. “I want you fresh when I claim you. We have a ceremony to prepare

for.”

He leaves.

The door shuts, and the click of the latch sounds like a coffin closing.

Everything in me collapses. Tears spill, and I can’t even lift my hands to wipe them away.

I have to get out.

I have to survive this.

At least at least everyone back home should be safe.

And then my mind claws its way back to the image I’ve been trying not to see.

Iron Fang.

Lying in his own blood.

He’d thrown himself between me and the blade. He saved me.

And now he’s gone.

“Oh, goddess…” The words come out broken. “Why is this happening?”

My face is wet, my chest tight, and I’m shaking when I don’t even notice the approach

outside the door.

It opens.

Two soldiers step in.

“Well, well,” the first one says, eyes dropping straight to my chest. “Pretty little thing.

Time to move you-royal cleaning.”

The other chuckles. “Wish the king would let us have a turn. We risked plenty helping

bring her in.”

He yanks my hair. I refuse to cry out.

“The two of you couldn’t handle me on your best day,” I say.

The taller one’s face twists. “Oh, you think you’re too good for us.”

He unbuckles the restraints and shoves me off the cot.

I hit the floor hard, forced down onto my knees in front of him. He looms over me with a

grin that makes my skin crawl.

“Since you’ve got such a mouth,” he says, “show me what it can do.”

He grips his d**k through his pants and steps in.

He doesn’t even get it out.

I lunge.

My teeth clamp down with everything I have.

His scream rips through the room-raw, animal, panicked. He tries to tear me off, hands flailing, body jerking. I don’t let go. I bite harder, determined to separate flesh from him if

I can.

A fist slams into my face.

They drag me out while the other soldier laughs like it’s the funniest thing he’s ever

seen.

The next room is brighter.

A bathtub sits waiting.

My stomach drops. Panic spikes, sharp and immediate, as I realize what they’re planning.

“Thank you, men. We’ll handle it now.”

Two women enter. The first is older; her scent is wrong-witch. The second is younger,

vampire, and the way she moves reads like trained obedience.

The witch looks me over with bored contempt. “All right, missy. I’m not here for your

drama. I’m here to wash you so your new mate will be pleased. That’s it. I’m not helping

you escape, I don’t care what you’ve been through, and I don’t have time for games.

Everyone’s got a sad story. Get over it.”

The vampire turns on the water and begins preparing the bath. She doesn’t meet my

eyes.

When the tub is ready, they strip my clothes away.

Then the necklace.

“Please,” I whisper, desperation clawing up my throat. “Can I keep my necklace on-for

now? Until King Griffin says otherwise?”

It’s all I have left of Ryder. Of us. And I know what it meant to his family.

The witch snorts. “Keep it. He’ll tear it off you soon enough. I know exactly how filthy the

king likes things.”

Her sneer is practiced.

I slide into the bath.

Warm water closes around me, but it doesn’t comfort. The vampire starts washing me

with a sponge, careful, mechanical.

When the witch turns away, I risk it.

‘Can you hear me?’ I push the words through the mind-link, aiming for the vampire.

She flinches-just a little-then keeps washing.

She heard.

Relief flickers, small but real.

‘Please,’ I continue, holding on to the thread. ‘I need help. Contact Alpha Ryder- Blackwood Rowen Pack, California. Please. I swear I’ll protect you.’

She shifts to my other side, pretending nothing happened.

The witch’s shadow falls across me.

A hand clamps onto my chin, jerking my face up. “What are you doing?” Her eyes narrow. “Trying magic in here?”

My heart stutters.

“I guess you need another shot,” she says coldly, “keep you sweet.”

“No.” I shake my head, water sloshing. “Please-no. I didn’t do anything. Please, no more

drugs.”

She doesn’t care.

She fills a syringe with the same poison from before, steps in close, and drives it into my

neck.

The burn spreads.

My limbs turn heavy.

The room tilts, the light smears, and the edges of everything soften as darkness rolls

back over me-thick, final, swallowing.

And I fade.
