“Reese! I’m testing your potential replacement,” Robin calls out as we pass through the main area of the packhouse. I know that he’s basically letting the pack know that we’re about to have a good brawl if they want to come watch, but Jacqueline is immediately concerned.

“No, no! That’s not what’s happening.”

Reese, however, understands Robin’s humor. “Be careful Alpha, you might be testing your own damn replacement,” he says, jogging over. “This I’ve got to see.”

I smile as I see the warriors scrambling to follow us outside. Everyone loves a good battle and Jacqueline is new. They may have seen her against Reese, but now she’s going/against their Alpha.

Robin hands Rory back to me, and when they get into position, I call out to Jacqueline.

“I’m going to be very disappointed if you don’t take my mate down, Jacqueline.”

“Hey, whose side are you on?” Robin asks, looking at me like I’ve hurt his feelings.

“I’m always on the side of girl power, baby,” I say. He shakes his head and turns back as my female warriors begin howling and clapping at my words.

“I’m honestly not sure

When Robin gestures for her to begin, she comes at him hard.

“Damn girl! Get him! Yes!” I begin cheering for her.

“Shit, she’s GOOD!” I say to Reese.

“Yeah, she is,” he says, but there’s a sadness there. I turn and look at him, but he just shrugs.

“You’ll find the right one, Reese. And she’ll be everything you’ve been wanting and more,” I say quietly.

“That’s what Alpha said, too.”

“Robin is almost always right. That’s why he’s such a good Alpha. You will be too, when you win your pack.”

He smiles at me. “Thanks, Luna. I hope it’s the pack right next door to us.”

“Me too,” I say, watching as Robin has to work hard to stay ahead of Jacqueline.

When he finally calls it, he smiles at her. “Damn, are you sure you don’t have Alpha blood?”

“Not that I know of,” she says, obviously pleased to have held her own against my mate.

“Well, I agree with Reese. You should consider competing to get your own pack if you want one. You’re that good,” he tells her, coming over and kissing me before kissing the top of Rory’s head.

“Do you really think so?” she asks him.

“What? You didn’t believe me?” Reese asks her.

She shrugs. “I thought you might be trying to be nice.”

“You haven’t been to the competitions. Trust me, Reese wouldn’t have suggested it if he didn’t think you could win. They aren’t for the faint of heart. Although, I’m always impressed at the number of warriors and omegas from our pack who enter the competition,” I say, looking around so my pack members know that I mean it.

“It’s that tough?” she asks.

“Two days of non–stop competitions. Yeah, it’s that tough,” Robin tells

her.

She looks very pleased, and the pack surrounds her and tells her how great she did as we walk back inside. Robin holds me back, watching until the others are far enough away.

“I need you to talk to Reese. He wants to take Jacqueline as a chosen mate, but I want him to wait.”

“We already discussed it, my mate. And as usual, you and I are in perfect agreement.

“Oh, baby, you get a reward just for being the man you are. Defeating a warrior as strong as Jacqueline is just the icing on the cake,” I purr at him.

“I think I’ll take that reward, the cake, and the icing right now,” he says, scooping me up and carrying me inside.

I’m laughing as he does, and I can feel the pack, once again, pleased and happy to have their leaders home, safe, and happy.

This morning, I’m holding my son, feeding him a mixture of Nikki’s milk and formula. Dr. Ostin said our son was a bit too young to start adding any kind of cereal or other ‘food‘ at this point. But since he’s gaining weight, and he’s still eating well, the doctor wasn’t concerned with starting formula.

While talking to my son, I log into the video call that the Alphas are having today about rescheduling our Alpha meeting. I know everyone has been waiting for me and Nikki to settle, and even though it’s only been ten days, having Nikki and Adira back makes everything right with the world.
