“Thank you, Luna,” he says. I wish I had more time to make sure Beta Anthony was okay, but I have to get in the van before it takes off.

‘Reese! Can you give Beta Anthony your number. He looks lost. He’s a brand–new Beta who just lost his Alpha, probably for a few months,‘ I say in the mind link.

‘Will do. I’ll see you back at the competition.‘

‘Make sure you focus and win, Beta. I wasn’t kidding about how much money I bet on you,‘ I say, hopping into the front of the van just before they take off.

‘Yes, Luna,‘ he says, and I can hear the smile in his voice.

As we pull away, I see Reese walking up to Beta Anthony who is standing right where I left him, looking lost and staring at the van as we pull away. I need to talk to Robin. Calvin’s pack will be in chaos and that’s if Calvin survives his surgeries. I’m not feeling confident in Beta Anthony’s ability to run the pack based on the lost look I see on

his face.

If Calvin doesn’t survive his surgeries, then there will be two packs in chaos. Because while they haven’t figured things out between them, Amelia and Calvin are still mates. Losing him will impact her and her wolf significantly. Even if he doesn’t die, she’ll be spending a lot of time in our pack, away from hers. After the group left to go help with Calvin, the remaining Lunas and Alphas had to shuffle around the remaining competitions. Anyone from Amelia’s pack of warriors and trackers who hadn’t yet competed either got moved to later in the day or put in right away so they could go help after competing. Plus, all of Amelia’s competitions had to get divided among the rest of the Alphas.

For me, and I noticed for Ezra too, at the end of each battle, I was looking around for my mate. When I took a break to get water, I jogged over to see my son, needing to feel close to him while Nikki is gone and at risk. I know my Beta would give his life for her, but I also know that she wouldn’t allow that if she could help it. Camden already got past me once. I have no intention of letting him get past me again.

“Some warriors are coming back,” Tiffany says. I look over and see that she’s right. Some of the warriors whose competitions got pushed back are returning.

I walk over as do the other Alphas who aren’t currently refereeing competitions.

“What do you know?” Ezra asks, getting there before I can.

“They’re having to pry Alpha Calvin out of his car, but he’s alive, unconscious but alive. It looks like it was a bomb, at least that’s what they were saying when we left. There’s a scorched area on the ground and the initial thoughts that I heard were that it was a bomb.”

“Are they searching for more bombs?” I ask, wanting to make sure no one blows up a large group of warriors, Alphas, and Lunas, including my mate.

“They hadn’t smelled any others before we left. It doesn’t seem

random, and it doesn’t seem like a trap for anyone other than Alpha Calvin.”

Hunter comes up and we fill him in and then Tiffany and Letti begin switching out the warriors and trackers that are just finishing their competitions.

It’s another couple of hours before I see Reese return with Jacqueline. I call a halt to my competition, opening the mind link.

‘REESE! Where’s Nikki?‘

His head snaps up and he comes jogging over.

“She’s safe, Alpha. She went with Alpha Amelia and Alpha Calvin to our pack to make sure the hospital is set up.”

I breathe a sigh of relief. “We were behind them, so I know that they returned safely.”

“Thanks Reese.”

“Any time, Alpha.”

“When are you up next?”

“Uh, it looks like I have time to get some food, then I have my next battle.”

fairly easily. The first day is only long because so many compete, and it takes time to get through them. The second day, the competitions are harder, and they take longer which is what makes the second day long.
