“You should know too that they have trackers out after you,” I tell him. After our last encounter, I’m enjoying having the upper hand again.

“After me?” he asks. “Me specifically?”

“Yeah, some of the warriors and trackers from Hunter’s pack recognized your scent. I’d suggest you find a spot and hole up for a while.”

I hear the soft growl, and I have to hold back my chuckle. Koden doesn’t like being told what to do.

“Have you seen Camden?” he asks, changing the subject.

“I thought he was with you?”

“No, I cut him loose. He’s missing a foot and after all that shit with Luna Nikki and her getting away, he was too much of a liability.”

“Haven’t seen him,” I say, but now, I’ll start looking. Koden has made himself a problem by not being careful. Maybe it’s time I find Camden. Calvin’s pack is weak, his new Beta doesn’t know what he’s doing. Maybe now is a good time for me to act. I don’t need to compete for a fucking pack when I can just take one over. I bet Camden will agree with me.

“Be careful,” I say to Koden before hanging up.

“You’ve got this Miles! Take him down!” I cheer.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised at this competition. Obviously, things got a little crazy when we found Alpha Calvin, but overall, the competition is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. The Alphas, all of the ones I’ve watched, are fair in how they referee. Luna Allison told me that they set up the fights to make sure that an Alpha doesn’t referee any one of their pack members so there’s no question of favoritism and from everything I’ve seen, these competitions are as fair as they can be.

There’s an overall excitement in the air, as individuals, even those who lose, watch the other battles and cheer for their friends, mates, and pack members. It’s actually a very festive environment.

Now I watch as my mate, I can’t even believe that I can call him that, takes down his opponent. The warrior Miles is fighting taps out and Alpha Lucas calls the fight, announcing Miles as the winner.

I squeal in a way that I’m not used to doing. I’m not a squealing kind of girl, but I’m so excited that it just comes out of me, and I race to my mate who catches me and spins me around.

“Hey Miles, they are taking volunteers for extra battles again this time for our odd numbered fights. I know you did one last time, and I wanted to make sure that you knew the option was available again if you want to volunteer,” Lucas tells him.

“Wait, is this important?” I ask him. He tucks me under his arm, and we begin to walk out of the ring so the next contestants can come in.

“Yes and no. It’s only important if you need a tiebreaker, which worked in my favor last time. I battled Alpha Calvin, and he never conceded. So, when Alpha Hunter called the fight, I won because I’d taken an extra battle, and Alpha Calvin hadn’t.”

“You defeated an Alpha?” I ask him impressed.

“I tied with him. I won because I’d battled an additional time and won,” he clarifies.

“So, it is important?” I ask him.

“No, because nothing is more important than you. You never told me that you wanted to be a Luna, but I’m assuming since you encouraged me to win today that being a Luna isn’t an offensive idea to you.”

“I think I could be a good Luna,” I say. ^

“Oh, you definitely could. But first, I want you as my mate. I want my mark on you, and you did say that if I won both of my matches today that I could mark you?” he asks, watching me and asking it as a question rather than a statement or demand.

I turn in his arms, putting my hands on his chest. I like that I have to look up just a little to look him in the eye. “I did say that, didn’t I?”
