The One I Should've Married (Stella and Sebastian) novel Chapter 41

It was easy to say she'd hold out.

But she needed to know where she stood with Sebastian Vance first.

Stella Channing frowned. "How do I test the waters?"

"You know the people around him, don't you?"

Stella fell silent.

Truth be told...

The most pressing issue right now wasn't her romantic entanglement with Sebastian.

It was her overseas connections.

She could handle these local nuisances in the city with ease.

But for certain international affairs, she needed to be closely aligned with Sebastian.

Julian Sinclair's number flashed on her screen.

Stella rejected it immediately.

That useless bastard really knew how to pick his moments.

The moment she hung up, he called again!

She instinctively moved to reject it, but then she saw the name on the screen. It was Kellen Knight.

Her grip on the phone instantly tightened.

Holly Huntington saw the caller ID too. She paused, then nudged Stella when she didn't answer.

"Pick it up! What are you waiting for?"

Speak of the devil.

If Kellen was calling her, it was definitely under Sebastian's orders.

This surprised Holly a little.

Stella's heart skipped an uncontrollable beat. She gave Holly a glance, took the phone, and stepped out onto the balcony.

The cool breeze against her face brought her a touch of clarity.

She took a deep breath, hit accept, and brought the phone to her ear. "...Hello."

Her voice was soft, masking a hint of sour longing.

It was a far cry from the ruthless tone she used when dealing with the Sinclairs and the Channings.

"Little Star."

Kellen's familiar voice drifted through the receiver, and in that instant, the coldness in Stella's eyes melted away just a bit.

"It's me."

Even though Sebastian hadn't called her himself.

Hearing Kellen's voice made her feel as though she could sense Sebastian's warmth.

No one knew what she had gone through regarding him since last night.

Her mind was plagued by memories of the foreign soul hijacking her body, humiliating and hurting Sebastian over the past three years.

And the look of absolute madness and restraint in his eyes the last time he looked at her!
