The One I Should've Married (Stella and Sebastian) novel Chapter 42

Both of them spoke through gritted teeth, looking as though they wanted nothing more than to rip each other apart.

Hearing Stella bring up the divorce, Julian's breathing instantly hitched on the other end of the line.

"Don't push it, Stella! Don't think I won't do it!"

This damn woman knew full well the Sinclair family would never agree to a divorce. She was deliberately using it to manipulate him.

Thinking about his grandparents ordering him to coax her made Julian half-dead with anger.

Stella scoffed. "If you've got the guts, prove it!"

If he really dared to go through with it, it would save her a lot of trouble.

But regardless of his courage, this divorce had to happen. She had to scrub herself clean before Bash returned.

When Julian couldn't find the words to respond.

Stella's taunts grew even more venomous. "I'm just afraid you're too much of a coward! Then again, you've been a spineless coward your whole life. You're not just a mama's boy—you're a pathetic puppet for your grandparents, too."

"Stella Channing!"

What man could endure such humiliation?

At that moment, Julian wanted to reach through the phone and tear Stella's vicious mouth apart.

"I don't like waiting," she warned. "You'd better be at the City Registry before me. Otherwise, between divorce and death, you'll only have the latter to choose from!"

The menace in her voice when she said the word 'latter' was palpable, piercing through the line and crushing down on Julian.

Listening to her dangerous tone, a shiver ran down Julian's spine.

His mind flashed to the image of her stepping on him yesterday, declaring: 'Divorce or death. Pick one!'

"You..." Julian stammered.

"Remember. Three o'clock!"

With that, Stella hung up, completely ignoring whatever else he had to say about Westside Heights.

Standing at Westside Heights, Julian listened to the dial tone, feeling like he was going to explode.

Ivy Sloane stood beside him, looking up with red-rimmed eyes. "Did she really sell the house?"

That damn Stella.

She had actually moved fast enough to sell Westside Heights out from under them.

The Sloanes had berated Ivy all night.

They had even issued a public statement severing all ties with her and kicked her out first thing in the morning.

She literally had nowhere else to go!

She had originally planned to crash at Westside Heights for a few days, only to arrive and find the new owner already preparing to move in!

The humiliation of the encounter still had Ivy's face flushed with a sickly pallor.

Julian was furious as well, but he forced himself to comfort her. "It's fine."

"Where are we supposed to go now?"

Ivy was seething internally, but she made sure to look incredibly pitiful and wronged, which only made Julian's heart ache more.
