The Pack's Hacker (by Cooper) novel Chapter 33

Jude

When the woman you’re falling head over heels in love with proclaims to your family that you’re the most incredible man in the world, there’s no other way to respond than to kiss her.

I know she still gets shy about it, but I also know that once we’re kissing, she forgets everything but me and our kiss, and I fucking love that!

I ignore Riley’s loud throat clearing. I’ve suffered with him kissing him mate deeply enough that I thought he might get her pregnant with only a kiss, so he can shove it.

On the drive to Riley’s pack, my sisters maintain a constant stream of chatter with Wendy. They ask her about her travels and if she’s ever been to California.

“You’ve never seen the ocean?” Caitlin asks, looking from her to me.

“No, but Jude says it’s amazing. He said we could take a trip to watch the sunset while we’re here,” Wendy says, looking at me. “Yep,” I grin.

I’m with my family, I have my arm around my girl, and she’s smiling at me. I’m not sure life gets any better than this.

‘She could be our mate. That would make it perfect,’ Saggio says and I couldn’t agree more.

“So, Jude, what have you got going on? You’re still working for the East Coast Council, right?” Dad asks.

“Jude is spectacular. He saved my life a few days ago,” Wendy begins.

“What?” my mother asks, her head snapping toward me.

I sigh. “We were after an escaped convict. Wendy was with me and Alpha Squad was behind us. He’d gone feral …” “You took on a feral wolf?” Riley asks.

I give him a look that I hope he interprets accurately as he shouldn’t ask too many questions.

“He attacked us, so yes, I defended. It was Wendy’s first mission. She did great,” I say, smiling at her.

She blushes and looks away and I rub my thumb on her shoulder.

“What did you think of the work, Wendy? From everything we’ve ever heard from Jude, it’s a tough job,” Mom asks her.

“Well, I had a lot of help. You’re never on your own, you know. You work as a team. Raptor, he’s the leader of Alpha Squad, he’s great. We have two new recruits on Alpha Squad, two people who graduated with my brother, so he’s having to work a bit harder than normal I’d say,” she says, looking at me.

“With a team of five, having two newbies makes things more difficult. But Raptor is an excellent leader. He would have made a fantastic Alpha if he were the oldest son. Since he’s not, we got lucky to get him.”

“And they got lucky to get you, too, Jude,” my father says.

Wendy smiles that brilliant Wendy smile at me. “Very lucky. He not only saved my life, but he also saved one of the new guys on Alpha Squad from drowning.”

My entire family, except Riley who is driving, looks at me. I’m not used to blushing, I’ve never been someone who blushes. But I feel my cheeks getting warm with Wendy’s gushing praise.

“Well, I couldn’t have saved him if Sphinx hadn’t guided me to him. I was in the water. She was my eyes, so like she said, it’s a

group effort.”

I kiss her nose and she continues to smile that brilliant smile at me.

“I wonder how often you’ve saved someone and we haven’t heard about it from you,” my mother says.

When I don’t say anything, she just raises her eyebrow.

“Exceptional and humble. Could he be any more perfect?” Wendy gushes.

“Oh goddess, please stop! You’re going to give my brother an ego the size of an Alpha’s,” Isobel says, making all of us laugh.

“Tell us more about your family, Wendy. Or better yet, tell me about Yana. Do you think we’d get along? If we went to the Academy at the same time, do you think we’d be friends?” Kira asks excitedly.

“Oh goddess, help the Academy if you and Yana went to school that the same time,” I say, shaking my head.

Wendy laughs. “It can’t be worse than when Kendra and Kaylee go.”

“Who are they?” Caitlin asks.

Wendy tells them about Alpha Quirin and Luna Kennedy’s quadruplets and the two that will most likely end up at the Academy.

I see Riley and Courtney share a look. My understanding is that Riley hasn’t started training their pups because Courtney says they’re too young.

“Your sister doesn’t mind her mate teaching their pups at such a young age?” Courtney asks.

Wendy laughs. “We call them the hellions for a reason. They look like my sister, but they take after Quirin. Actually, they accused Quirin of neglecting Kyra, one of the twins because he hadn’t started training her to fight yet.”

“And how old is she?” Courtney asks.

“Two, and from the little I’ve seen, she’s already taken to fighting just like Kendra and Kaylee.”

“The two of them took down a warrior,” I say. “On their own.”
