The Paper Wife’s Empire novel Chapter 350

Seeing her look at him with a helpless expression, he reluctantly spoke up for her. “Yancey, what’s the point of these irrelevant questions? Don’t tell me that just because Ms. Prescott offended Ramona, Gallop Inc. is now on the Covington Group’s blacklist. Let me tell you, even if Ramona owned the entire company, she wouldn’t have that kind of power!”

As soon as Holden finished speaking, Wisteria let out an exaggerated gasp. She said nothing, but simply turned her head to stare at Brianna, which was enough to make the woman nearly fall out of her chair. One of the Gallop Inc. representatives caught her just in time.

Holden felt as if he’d been punched in the face. He’d lost all patience. He tapped the table. “Yancey!”

“Very well. I’ll explain why the Covington Group cannot sign with Gallop Inc. today.” Yancey finally looked up from his laptop. His calm, composed demeanor was enough to make even Holden’s heart pound with uncertainty. Did Ramona really have a way to override a partnership that had been approved by both Benedict and the Covington Group’s established procedures?

Yancey paused, and everyone in the room held their breath. The Gallop Inc. representatives now looked at Brianna with suspicion. Only Wisteria had a smug smile on her face as she admired Yancey’s profile.

Yancey’s gaze swept across the room before landing on Brianna, who was now visibly losing her nerve, her body trembling slightly. “Ms. Prescott, perhaps you’d like to explain it yourself? It’s always better to confess on your own.”

The question was directed at Brianna. She was speechless for a long moment before finally forcing out, her voice raspy and her breathing ragged, “Me? What do I have to confess?”

“Confess what you did to earn such a high-stakes role at Gallop Inc. Confess what’s wrong with the contents of this partnership proposal you brought.” Yancey looked directly into Brianna’s eyes. His voice was as gentle as ever, but it carried an immense weight. He smiled faintly. “If Ms. Prescott can’t remember, I can give you a hint. It has something to do with my sister, Ramona—that is, Ms. Jarrett.”

As he finished speaking, he pulled the USB drive from the laptop. The sharp click sounded like a nerve snapping in Brianna’s mind. Unable to take the pressure, she shot to her feet and blurted out, “What proof do you have?! If it was never published, who’s to say it was hers and not mine?”

Holden froze. Yancey, however, remained calm. “So, Ms. Prescott, you admit it?”

“I…” Brianna’s face flushed then paled. With everyone staring at her, she was on the verge of tears. “I don’t know what you’re talking about!”

“If you don’t know, then I’ll tell you. You stole Ramona’s work and used it in the Gallop Inc. proposal. Brianna, you’ve got some nerve. That’s illegal, isn’t it?” Wisteria sneered. She had no sympathy for Brianna. The closer she was to tears, the happier Wisteria was.

“Ramona… how…”

She had clearly just arrived back at the Covington Group. She was dressed casually, her long, soft hair flowing over her shoulders, making her look like a beautiful girl next door. But despite her simple attire, the moment she stepped into the room, her presence was overwhelming. Unlike Brianna’s forced and strained demeanor, Ramona was relaxed and effortless, not even bothering to spare a glance for anyone else.

Brianna had expected Ramona to come straight for her, but she wasn’t even in Ramona's line of sight. Ramona walked to Yancey’s side, took back her USB drive, and examined it.

She didn't speak, but a heavy silence fell over the room. Even Wisteria held her breath, not daring to greet her. The oppressive atmosphere was a testament to the power Ramona now wielded.

Holden’s throat tightened. He wanted to say something, but the words wouldn’t come.
