The Paper Wife’s Empire novel Chapter 359

Wisteria hadn’t even processed it at the time. But looking back, she realized she had nothing to be thankful for and was just worried she had messed things up. She could only confront Holden head-on, but Yancey had handled the situation with such effortless cool. He was like a seasoned adult.

Yancey had just smiled at the time. Now, thinking about it, he realized that the former little tyrant was now insecure to her very core. “You did great today. Sometimes, we can’t show our true colors because of our positions, but I think it’s much more satisfying to be like you were before, just saying whatever you want.” Yancey’s out-of-the-blue comment caught Wisteria by surprise.

She didn’t respond. Yancey was a considerate person; he was just trying to comfort her. At the Covington Group, everyone from Ramona to Yancey, even Nova, was better than her.

When they arrived at the Huxley estate, Yancey had intended to just watch her go inside and then leave. But he saw someone at the gate who seemed to be waiting for her, and she was roughly pulled inside. He felt a sense of unease and called her, but she didn't answer. Without a second thought, he got out of the car and rang the doorbell.

A maid answered and, after a long pause, opened the gate. “Mr. Covington, Miss Wisteria has already gone to bed. If it’s nothing important, perhaps you could come back another day?”

“If she’s in bed, then wake her up. I just remembered something important I need to tell her.” Before the maid could say another word, Yancey pushed past her and strode into the house.

Solenne Huxley saw what was happening from upstairs and quickly threw a coat over her pajamas and ran down. She blocked Yancey’s path. “Yancey! This is my home! You can’t just barge in here!” Seeing Yancey so worked up over Wisteria infuriated her. He was a perfect gentleman; why was he so obsessed with that wild girl?

“Get out of my way. I’m here to see Wisteria.” Yancey pushed Solenne aside.

“It can’t wait until tomorrow,” he insisted, and tried to go upstairs.

Faye sighed and gave a signal, and the bodyguards blocked him again. “Yancey, please leave!”

But Yancey was not one to be deterred. The moment Faye finished speaking, he struck, taking down two bodyguards with a few swift punches. Yancey might look refined, but underneath his suit, he was all muscle.
