The Paper Wife’s Empire novel Chapter 369

“How is my husband’s health? Is he recovering well?” Ramona asked, getting straight to the point.

The doctors exchanged glances before going over the test results one by one. Overall, all his vitals were normal. Most of the internal bleeding had resolved. He was, however, still weak, and the muscle trauma required ongoing attention to prevent further strain.

Ramona let out a sigh of relief and turned to Ethan. “Did you hear that? You still need to rest.”

“Mm, I heard,” Ethan murmured, pulling her so close she almost fell into his lap.

“Is the occasional fever normal, too?” Ramona asked the doctors. “Does that mean he still has significant inflammation?”

“That… is a possibility,” one doctor said with a slight hesitation and a nod.

Before Ramona could ask anything else, Ethan pulled her to her feet. “Let’s go. I’m hungry. We’re getting lunch.”

“Wait a second…”

Ramona sensed something was off, but Ethan was already leading her out of the room. He had spoken to the doctors before the examination, instructing them to perform only the basic tests. Despite the specialists’ recommendations for an endoscopy and biopsy, Ethan was adamant about waiting until after Ramona had left the country. He knew her; otherwise, she would insist on staying to be with him.

The restaurant was encased in floor-to-ceiling glass, like a fantastical tower. Stepping inside felt like entering a real-life crystal palace. But the most stunning feature was the view. At eighty-seven stories, Skyreach was the tallest building in Havencrest City, offering a panoramic vista of the entire metropolis from the best possible vantage point. The sunrises were breathtaking, the sunsets were gentle, and at night, the city lights twinkled like a sea of stars.

When Ramona and Ethan arrived, it wasn’t yet evening. The sky was a vast, brilliant blue, and the transparent walls made the billowing clouds outside seem close enough to touch.

“It’s so beautiful here,” Ramona breathed, taking out her phone to capture the view from different angles. In the reflection, a faint outline of her and Ethan was visible. She was focused on photographing the clouds, while he stood just behind her, silently watching the same scenery she admired.

She took several pictures and eagerly showed them to him.
