His aunt was pregnant, how could she suddenly end up in the hospital? Hadn't her uncle been with her? “The doctor said it was a threatened miscarriage.” Leonie froze. All she heard was “miscarriage.” Did that mean the babies were gone?
In that moment, Leonie summoned a courage she never knew she had and unleashed a tirade on Hawthorne. “Uncle, what is wrong with you? Don't you know how fragile Aunt Gwyneth is? The biggest reason she married you was for the happiness you brought her! I heard she had moderate depression before she met you. But after you got married, why did you have to get involved with that Patti Yale? She’s not even sincere with you, don’t you know that? Every rich kid in Greenvale has slept with Patti Yale! You broke my aunt’s heart for someone like that? You’ve really disappointed us all.”
Standing beside her, Layne was petrified. They would never have dared to speak to their uncle like that. In the past, a simple cough from him would send both of them scurrying to their rooms to hide. But for Gwyneth, Leonie was willing to risk it all. She felt deeply for her aunt. In the time she'd known her, she felt that only with Gwyneth could she truly be happy. Her aunt was a good person—quiet, but deeply caring, unlike others who approached her with ulterior motives.
Hawthorne couldn’t explain his actions to Leonie, so he just stood there like a block of wood, taking her scolding without a word, his face pale. The three of them waited for nearly four hours before the light above the emergency room door finally went out. Leonie was the first to rush forward, while Hawthorne lacked even the courage to stand. He was terrified the doctor would tell him the babies were gone.
“How is my aunt?” Leonie was scared, too. She dreaded the doctor coming out and asking them to choose between saving the mother or the child. God, her aunt's parents were in Starfall City. How devastated would they be if they saw her like this? The doctor emerged, pulling off his mask. He looked at Hawthorne, Leonie, and Layne. “You’re lucky you brought her in when you did. We managed to save both the mother and the babies. However, the mother is very weak and can't handle any stress. You must be extremely careful from now on. Don’t let her get emotional. It would be best for her to be on bed rest for the next few months—no walking around, and certainly no heavy lifting. Someone should be with her 24/7. It's a miracle we saved them both. The patient’s constitution has always been weak. If she had lost this pregnancy, she might not have been able to conceive again.”
After the doctor finished, Hawthorne was completely numb. Leonie, however, heard only that the babies were safe and was so overjoyed she threw her arms around Layne’s neck, laughing and jumping. It wasn't until Layne reminded her to be quiet in the hospital that she sheepishly let go and stuck out her tongue.
A nurse wheeled Gwyneth out of the room. Her face was ashen, her once rosy cheeks now sunken and colorless. Her eyes were shut tight. The healthy glow she’d had just half a month ago was gone, replaced by hollowed cheeks and faint dark circles under her eyes. Leonie was stunned by the sight of her aunt and turned to Hawthorne. “Uncle, weren't you with her every day? How did she end up like this?” She looked like a ghost of her former self.
Hawthorne clearly hadn't been taking good care of Gwyneth. Every time Gwyneth met with him, it was rushed, and he was constantly distracted by Patti Yale. Hawthorne was consumed by regret. Faced with Leonie’s accusation, he said nothing. Layne quickly pulled his sister aside. “That's enough. Let Uncle and Aunt have some time alone. The important thing is she’s okay. Let's go home and make some restorative broth for her.” Dragged away by Layne, Leonie left.
In the private room, only Hawthorne remained, watching Gwyneth on the bed. In just a week, she had lost so much weight that only her belly seemed prominent, a stark contrast to her frail frame since she was carrying twins. Hawthorne took her hand and found it unnervingly cold, as if devoid of life.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Perfect Wife's Perfect Revenge
I can’t even read this sickening story anymore, this couple didn’t even get a chance to be really happy before their marriage was torn apart. It had been dragged out long enough....
If Gwyn gets an abortion I am going to stop reading this story, I believe in pro-choice but come on. Why can't he just tell her what he is really doing with Patti instead of letting her think she is a mistress....
Why no updates? It’s been so long! Pls update....
