The Perfect Wife's Perfect Revenge novel Chapter 861

James stared fixedly at Sallie.

"Sallie, I suddenly feel like you've changed."

Sallie smiled faintly.

"Of course. With my husband in prison and no idea when he'll get out, I've been so worried I haven't slept in days. Not to mention the company is full of ungrateful backstabbers; if I don't kick them out, I wouldn't be able to sleep at all."

Seeing Sallie agree with him, James couldn't help but curse those people out, recounting all his hard work over the years to win his wife's sympathy. Finally, he affectionately grasped Sallie's hand.

"Sallie, as long as we stand united, there's no problem we can't solve. The company's IPO can just be delayed for a while. Once I'm out, I'll definitely build an empire to make your dad proud."

Sallie's beautiful eyes gleamed. For some reason, James felt a sudden, chilling aura radiating from her usually stunning gaze.

He blinked, and Sallie's expression was back to normal. James assumed he had just imagined it and didn't overthink it.

Sallie looked at James with a smile.

"So, everything you've done all these years was just to put on a show for my dad."

James was a master flirt when it came to women. The moment Sallie spoke, he sensed something was off, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He quickly pasted on a flattering smile.

"Honey, what are you saying? What do you mean I did it to show off for your dad? Wasn't I doing this so you could have a better life? Think about it—when your husband becomes the CEO of a publicly traded company, you get to walk around proudly as the CEO's wife. A husband's success is a wife's glory, isn't it? I'm your pride and joy. Everyone envies Mrs. Mercer. Even though you're the heiress of the Yeager family, you can't just live under your dad's name forever, right?"

Sallie watched his performance in silence.

"Whatever a father has belongs to his daughter, but what a husband has might not all belong to his wife. I don't think I can bear the title of Mrs. Mercer. I'm afraid I'm not the only one who wants to be Mrs. Mercer. What do you say, Mr. Mercer?"

"What do I have to fear? But James, you're probably the only one who believes your own lies. I have something I want you to see. Three days ago, right before you were taken away and after the company's IPO, didn't you forget to take care of something?"

James, of course, knew what his unfinished business was. He had placed those five women in the same villa, planning to send them off to different parts of the country. It was a desperate move forced by circumstances.

He was mostly afraid of the secret getting out; putting all five of them together was simply more efficient to manage.

That stupid woman Patti Yale was just too dangerous. Even with her in prison, James didn't dare drop his guard.

He was terrified that if Sallie found out, all his hard work would be ruined. Plus, he had painstakingly raised those eight sons—the oldest was already thirteen.

He had decided that after the IPO, he would siphon a fortune from the stock market and bring those boys home to officially join his family. Imagine how glorious that would have been.

"Of course I remember," James said with a sleazy smile. Sallie stared at him coldly, waiting for him to confess.
