Their eyes met, and Gwyneth suddenly sat up, grabbing Hawthorne's sleeve. "You're leaving right now, aren't you?"
She had never been this terrified of Hawthorne leaving. Gwyneth had developed an intense anxiety around separations; every time someone walked out the door, a dark voice in her head whispered that she might never see them again.
Hawthorne hated parting from her just as much, but this mission was crucial for her peace of mind.
He had already built his empire. The Everhart Group was at its absolute peak, and he had smoothly transitioned the day-to-day operations to Layne. From now on, his sole purpose in life was his family—his wife and their unborn children.
McNeil was the heart of the Langford family, and his comatose state was Gwyneth's greatest sorrow. Only by fulfilling this wish for her could Hawthorne truly find peace.
"Gwyneth, I told you I'd be gone for a little while. Don't worry. I swear to you, I will come back safe. I won't let you panic. I'll video call you every single day, okay?"
She knew that once Hawthorne made a decision, no force on earth could stop him. Fighting back tears, she held her belly and pushed herself out of bed.
Gwyneth insisted on seeing him off. When they reached the bottom of the stairs and opened the front door, she was stunned to find dozens of black SUVs lined up outside.
She had expected a crew of rugged men, but to her surprise, there was a woman among them. Dressed in sharp tactical gear, the young woman stood confidently by the vehicles.
Right now, Gwyneth only cared about Hawthorne's safety. Seeing a woman in the convoy brought her a sliver of relief—at least there would be someone with a more meticulous nature to keep an eye on this pack of rough men.
"Is everything fully prepped? I heard The Great Basin Wilderness is incredibly dangerous."
So many people had lost their lives out there. Gwyneth swallowed the rest of her sentence, terrified that speaking the words aloud would curse him. Hawthorne stepped in close and captured her lips, silencing her fears.
The fierce, unflinching resolve in Gwyneth's eyes was something Hawthorne had never seen before. He knew she wasn't bluffing. If he met a fatal end on this road, she would follow him without a second thought.
A heavy lump formed in his throat. He wanted to reassure her, but he didn't even know where to begin. It was time to hit the road, and everyone instinctively avoided talking about worst-case scenarios, even though the anxiety hung thick in the air.
Hawthorne finally climbed into the lead vehicle. The convoy slowly began to roll forward.
Gwyneth wanted to chase after the car, but the sheer weight of her pregnancy pressed down on her nerves, leaving her feet constantly swollen.
She couldn't go far. All she could do was stand on the pavement, waving at his SUV until the entire convoy disappeared from sight.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Perfect Wife's Perfect Revenge
I can’t even read this sickening story anymore, this couple didn’t even get a chance to be really happy before their marriage was torn apart. It had been dragged out long enough....
If Gwyn gets an abortion I am going to stop reading this story, I believe in pro-choice but come on. Why can't he just tell her what he is really doing with Patti instead of letting her think she is a mistress....
Why no updates? It’s been so long! Pls update....
