The Perfect Wife's Perfect Revenge novel Chapter 933

"Mr. Kaufman, please leave," she said icily. "You are not welcome here."

Connor opened his mouth to argue, but Layne materialized, his expression lethal.

"Mr. Kaufman. My mother just passed away, and my sister is not in the right state of mind. We have a lot to handle. Forgive me if we cannot play the gracious hosts."

Layne's dismissal left no room for debate. Pushing the issue now would only humiliate Connor further, so he swallowed his pride and walked away.

Fuming with frustration, Connor climbed into his car, only to hear Gwyneth calling his name.

"Connor..."

She was heavily pregnant. Layne had offered to have a driver take her home, but she had declined, saying she brought her own car.

Layne was too overwhelmed with the funeral arrangements to argue. But Gwyneth had deliberately waited for Connor, flagging him down the second he pulled out of the driveway.

Feeling entirely disconnected from reality, Connor quickly opened the passenger door and helped her in.

"You're months along, and Hawthorne just abandons you at home to fend for yourself? What the hell is his problem?"

Connor was practically vibrating with rage, and Hawthorne made an easy target. He wasn't trying to cause drama; Gwyneth knew he was just lashing out from the pain.

She offered a sad, faint smile, the heavy shadow of Mrs. Everhart's death still clinging to her.

"Connor, if you really want to win Leonie over, you have to give her time. She told me everything about Dorian. He wasn't exactly a saint."

"But I know he treated her well. Leonie might have grown up with a silver spoon, surrounded by her parents' love, but when it comes to matters of the heart, she's fiercely loyal and incredibly naive. She's not like the other girls in your circle."

"She's fragile and sensitive. The way you treated her completely broke her heart. If you hadn't done that, she never would have sought out Dorian's company."

"Celia told me about it too. When she met Dorian, she was spiraling. He was there for her, giving her the emotional support she desperately needed, which is why she became so attached to him."

"Leonie swore to me she only ever saw him as a younger brother, and he looked at her like a sister. There was never anything romantic between them."

Connor gripped the steering wheel tight, fighting the urge to light a cigarette. Out of respect for the pregnant woman beside him, he held back. Her words made his chest ache with a sickening guilt.

"She flinches every time I look at her. She won't even let me near her. I don't know what else to do. I just wanted to apologize."

For his arrogant, reckless youth, and his selfish pride, he was now paying a devastating price. But the worst part was that the true cost had been paid in other people's blood.

If he hadn't played stupid games with her heart, it wouldn't have ended in a massacre.

"Connor."

"Drop it. I know."
