The Perfect Wife's Perfect Revenge novel Chapter 994

She knew there was no point in lying to him, so she didn't even try.

"I trust you," Layne said softly. "It's completely normal to feel upset when you find out from someone else that he's getting married."

The car pulled up to the driveway of their estate, and they stepped out together.

Instead of heading straight inside, Layne caught her hand, pulling her to a stop.

"I don't have any hidden motives here," he told her. "If you genuinely wanted to get back together with that man, you wouldn't have waited this long. Maeve, I believe in you."

With those few words, the tears Maeve had been fighting finally spilled over.

"Why are you so good to me? I don't deserve it."

Her words carried a double meaning, heavy with guilt. Layne didn't hesitate. He pulled her into a tight, comforting embrace.

"Don't be silly. We're together. If you hadn't been so reluctant to get married, I would have made you my wife a long time ago."

Maeve looked up, her eyes swimming with tears. "But your parents just passed away. Shouldn't you take time to grieve?"

A flicker of deep sorrow crossed Layne's features, quickly masked by quiet resilience. He was a grown man, not prone to dramatic displays of emotion. He kept his grief buried deep within.

"That's an old tradition. Not a modern one. I know my parents would want to see me married and happy. They always wanted to meet you. I know you had your reasons for keeping your distance back then, and I trust that you had no choice."

Maeve fell silent. She was the only one who truly understood the weight of her secrets.

"Layne, I'll do it."
