159 Chapter 159 I Am His Secretary

Blanche’s POV

Back in the hospital room, Oswald cleaned himself up quickly before lying down to rest.

The room had an extra bed with enough space for Zain and me to sleep together.

Just the thought of sharing a bed with Zain made me feel uncomfortable.

But we ended up on the same bed anyway.

I waited until Oswald’s breathing became steady, then Zain moved closer, sliding his arm around my waist to pull me against him

completely.

My cold back pressed against Zain’s warm chest.

The temperature difference between us was stark as Zain brushed his lips near my ear, whispering, Do you think Grandpa was wrong?

I paused, then replied, Zain, I just want to sleep.

Zain ignored my response and continued, Grandpa treated Grandma really well. He truly loved her.

My eyes flew open at his words. I turned to glare at him, whispering, Love isn’t about keeping someone trapped. Love isn’t about forcing

someone to change for you.”

Zain looked straight at me, his voice remaining low as he asked quietly, Then what is love?

I hesitated, uncertain how to respond. After a moment, I answered honestly, It’s like how you feel about Joanna. You…”

Before I could finish, Oswald suddenly opened his eyes. He said to Zain, Zain, it just hit me, it’s Mr. Tim’s birthday party this weekend.

You two should go in my place.”

Zain considered this, then asked, What day exactly?

Oswald replied, Saturday night.”

Zain nodded. Alright.”

Soon, Oswald drifted back to sleep.

Once Oswald was sound asleep, Zain looked at me and asked, What were you trying to say just now?

Drowsiness washed over me, and I didn’t bother responding. I just remained silent.

When I woke up the next morning, Zain had already left.

Oswald was still sleeping, and the caregiver had brought breakfast.

Since I had to get to work, I asked the caregiver to stay with Oswald before leaving the hospital.

That evening, Zain didn’t come to drive me home, and I had no plans to visit Oswald at the hospital that night.

So I returned to the Callum Mansion.

When I arrived home, Camila burst from the living room and wrapped herself around me like a little monkey.

Aunt Blanche, I missed you so much! I haven’t seen you in foreverit’s been so long!Camila whined.

Camila nuzzled my face, showing just how much she’d missed me.

I lifted Camila up and pressed my cheek against her soft, chubby face. I missed you too, Camila.”

Camila poked my cheek with her finger and said, Aunt Blanche, my school is having a fall outing next week. Can you come with me?

A fall outing?I repeated, my voice filled with doubt.

I thought, It’s already early winteraren’t fall outings supposed to be over by now?

Camila just nodded, oblivious. Yeah, my teacher said so.”

I checked my work schedule and said, Camila, it happens to be my shift that day. How about asking your mom and dad to go with you?

Camila pouted. Mom said she’ll go, but Dad can’t. So I really want you to come with me too.

I sighed, feeling a bit helpless. Alright, I’ll try to swap my shift. If I can, then I’ll go with you, okay?

Camila jumped up, waving her arms happily.

Since it was Saturday, I slept in.

When I finally woke up, it was already after ten.

Right then, my phone buzzed. Zain was calling.

I answered, and Zain said, I’m coming to pick you up. We need to get you styled this afternoon for the party tonight.

Before noon, Zain arrived.

He gave me a slight nod before we headed to the makeup studio together.

After dropping me off, Zain said, I need to swing by the office for a bit, I’ll come back to get you later.

I didn’t ask any questions and just nodded. Okay.”

I spent the entire afternoon getting meticulously styled.

The stylist selected a black evening gown for me, and my hair was swept back into a low bun, with a couple of loose strands falling by my ears, making my features appear even more delicate.

The makeup artist completed my look with some jewelry and elegant earrings, giving me an extra touch of grace.

In the evening, Zain finally arrived.

I had already finished getting ready and had been waiting for a while.

When Zain walked in, he took one look at me and seemed completely stunned.

After years of marriage, he apparently never knew I could look this gorgeous.

I was so slim, and with just a bit of styling, I looked dropdead gorgeous, like a completely different person.

Even someone like Zain, who’d seen more than his fair share of stunning women, appeared floored.

I paid no attention to his gaze and just sat there quietly, waiting for him to take the lead.

Zain got his hair fixed up too, and by the time he finished, it was getting late.

When he stood up, I followed suit.

As we walked out together, I caught sight of a faint smudge on Zain’s shirt.

I recognized it as foundation immediately.

Just a hint of color, but I noticed it all the same.

I guessed it probably happened when Joanna and Zain were kissingjust a careless mark left behind.

The car was parked by the curb, and I went to get in the back seat out of habit.

But as soon as I opened the door, I saw the back seat was packed with gift bags and boxes of all shapes and sizes.

Seeing me pause, Zain came over and said, Those are for Mr. Tim. Why don’t you take the front seat?

I didn’t say a word. I just walked around the car and slipped into the front passenger’s seat.

The drive to the Tim family’s place didn’t take long.

Once Zain parked the car, he told the servants to start unloading the gifts.

After everything was taken out, he opened the door for me and offered his hand.

I ignored him. I just got out of the car by myself, gathered up my dress, and walked toward the Tim family’s front door in my high heels.

Zain hesitated briefly before following after me,

As we reached the front gate, Wayne, having been tipped off by the servants, stepped out of the house to greet us.

Spotting Zain, he came over quickly, shook his hand, and handed him a cigar.

Wayne lit the cigar for Zain, beaming as he said, Zain, you’re a rare guest! It’s not often you drop by my place.

Zain gave a faint smile. You’re too kind, Mr. Tim.

After chatting for a bit, Wayne finally noticed the lady who’d come in with Zain.

He remembered Oswald’s instructions that Zain would be bringing his wife along tonight.

Even though he already knew my identity, Wayne still asked tentatively, Zain, is thisMr. Oswald Jacob’s granddaughterin-

But when he had to introduce me, he seemed to lose his words.

I saw what was happening and realized he didn’t want anyone to know we were married, so I jumped in before he could say anything and said, I’m his secretary.”

Wayne was visibly taken aback by that.

But since neither Zain nor I wanted to say more, Wayne just let it slide.

Zain obviously didn’t see that answer coming.

But before anyone could get a word in, Vincent’s brash voice boomed from the entrance. Mr. Jacob, I’ve heard you’re famous for your generosity and big spending. I wonder if I might be lucky enough to ask you for something tonight?
