182 Chapter 182 Carried From The Darkness
Blanche’s POV 1
Joanna gently touched Carry’s flushed cheeks, cradling her close. “This is all my fault. You’re sick because I brought you along”
Carry weakly shook her head. “No, Miss Joanna! I just get sick really easily.”
Tears welled in Joanna’s eyes, her voice cracking with remorse. “If I’d known this would happen, I never would’ve taken you with me.
Please don’t hate me, Carry.”
Carry lifted her tiny hand to brush away Joanna’s tears. “I don’t hate you, Miss Joanna. I’ll be running around again soon.”
Joanna managed a shaky smile, stroking Carry’s face tenderly. “You’re such an angel, Carry.”
Carry wrapped herself around Joanna like a koala.
Zain smiled at his daughter, though gentle correction colored his tone. “Carry, Miss Joanna is still recovering. Hanging onto her like that
might hurt her.”
Being the obedient child she was, Carry immediately released her grip.
Seeing his daughter’s disappointed expression, Zain lifted the lunch container with a grin. “Look what Miss Joanna did–she went all the
way home to cook you something special!”
Carry’s face instantly brightened. “Really? I’ve never had Miss Joanna’s cooking! Dad, open it quick–I want to try!”
At Blissfield Villa, Joanna was always buried in work and research, leaving Heidi to handle all the cooking.
Watching Carry’s excitement, Joanna softly cautioned, “Don’t expect too much, okay? I barely cook, so it might taste awful.”
But Carry didn’t care. She looked at Zain expectantly. “Dad, hurry up and open it!”
Zain obliged.
Inside the container sat a milky–white fish broth dotted with suspicious dark flecks floating on top.
Carry didn’t hesitate–she grabbed the small spoon and took a sip.
The moment it touched her tongue, something twitched in her expression, her brow creasing involuntarily.
I stayed pressed against the wall, trying to disappear into the background.
I watched Zain, Carry, and Joanna huddled together.
They looked like the perfect little family.
What twisted the knife deeper was watching Carry–even though the broth clearly tasted terrible, she swallowed two full spoonfuls out
of pure kindness.
Then she licked her lips and beamed at Joanna. “Miss Joanna, your fish broth is amazing! I definitely want more next time.”

I absorbed every word, my chest tightening until I felt completely hollow.
One bowl of questionable soup could make Carry this happy, yet nothing I’d ever done for her registered.
My presence here was pathetic.
I couldn’t stomach another second. I unclenched my fists from my pants and slipped out of the room.
Carry glanced up just as I disappeared through the doorway. Something flickered across her face–a brief shadow that made her look
almost… disappointed? But she quickly turned back to Zain and Joanna, as if forcing herself to focus on them instead.
Not wanting to dwell on whatever I’d seen in her expression, I noticed Carry looking back at Zain and the bandage wrapped around his
forehead.
Her eyes widened with worry. “Dad, what happened to your head?”
Zain shrugged casually. “Nothing major. Just bumped it accidentally.”
I caught his response as I walked away.
I got it–Zain wasn’t trying to protect my reputation with Carry. He just wanted to avoid complications.
After leaving the hospital, I hailed a taxi and headed straight back, canceling my time–off request.
I buried myself in work all afternoon.
I even stayed a bit longer that evening.
My coworkers invited me to dinner afterward.
By the time I returned to Callum Mansion, it was late at night.
Since I’d left Carry’s hospital room that morning, Zain hadn’t called once, and I hadn’t reached out about Carry either–complete radio
silence all day.
Roger and Irene were already asleep when I got back.
Quinton and Amber’s doors were open, but their rooms were empty.
Camila had turned in early too.
Not wanting to disturb anyone, I moved through the house like a ghost.
Back in my room, I collapsed onto the bed without even showering.
I hadn’t slept at all the night before, and the demanding afternoon had pushed my body past its limit.
Somewhere between sleep and consciousness, I felt like I was on fire.
When I touched my skin, I was drenched in sweat and burning up.
Every swallow felt like swallowing broken glass.
My whole body ached, my eyes throbbing painfully.

I knew immediately–I was sick, running a high fever.
I tried to get up and find some medicine, but my limbs refused to cooperate. I couldn’t even make it off the bed.
After struggling for what felt like forever, I gave up and collapsed back onto the mattress.
The effort left me completely soaked in sweat.
I felt utterly drained, my thoughts scattered and hazy. Time became meaningless—my body shut down and I drifted into restless sleep.
Half–conscious, I thought I heard something near the window.
When I forced my eyes open, a shadowy figure was moving closer.
As the person stepped out of the darkness, I gradually recognized him–Vincent.
I couldn’t tell if this was real or another fever dream; everything felt surreal, like floating between worlds.
Vincent slipped through the window and rushed to my bedside.
Seeing me sprawled there, face flushed and soaked in sweat, he looked alarmed. He sat beside me, quickly pressing his hand to my
forehead.
The instant he touched me, my burning skin made him flinch.
His voice was sharp with concern. “Blanche, can you hear me? Do you know who I am?”
He kept talking while gently tapping my cheek, trying to bring me around.
My eyes were completely unfocused, glazed with confusion.
Vincent’s expression turned panicked—afraid I might have a seizure from the fever. Without hesitation, he gathered me into his arms.
I felt weightless against his chest, like I was floating through clouds instead of inhabiting my own body.
Vincent didn’t waste another second; clutching me tight, he headed straight for the bedroom door.
But just as Vincent carried me out of the bedroom, Quinton appeared in the hallway, having just returned home.
Quinton’s face showed complete bewilderment seeing Vincent holding me. “Vincent?”
Still looking confused, Quinton demanded, “How the hell did you get in here?”
Vincent paused, surprised to encounter Quinton, but there was no time for lengthy explanations. He said urgently, “I’ll explain everything later, Quinton. Blanche’s burning up with fever–I need to get her to the hospital now.”
