183 Chapter 183 Staying Here With You

Blanche’s POV 1

Quinton lingered by the staircase, clutching his laptop bag, helpless as he watched Vincent scoop me up and whisk me away.

Quinton’s face tightened, and he swallowed hard, as if holding back words he’d been about to say when he saw my flushed, mortified

face.

Vincent bounded down the stairs and ran straight into Amber, who’d just walked through the front door.

Even with me cradled in his arms, Vincent managed a quick, Hey, Amber.”

Amber froze when she spotted Vincent, but recovered fast. The second she noticed how out of it I looked in Vincent’s arms, she burst

out, Blanche, what happened?

Vincent didn’t slow his stride toward the exit, tossing back, She’s running a high fever. Getting her to the hospital.”

Before Amber could even process what was happening, Vincent had already swept me out the door.

Quinton appeared at the bottom of the stairs just then.

He spotted Amber and called out with urgency, Come on, we need to follow them and see what’s going on.”

I drifted back to consciousness late into the night, my head still swimming in a fog.

The stark white hospital ceiling stretched above me, and that sharp disinfectant smell hit my nose immediately.

Something pinched the back of my hand. I glanced over and saw the IV line snaking into my skin.

A soft voice spoke up beside me. Blanche, you’re awake?

It was Amber.

I turned and found Amber perched in the chair to my right, while the IV drip hung on my left side.

I tried to speak, but barely managed a whisper. Amber.

My voice came out scratchy and weak, my eyes probably looked bloodshot.

Amber leaned forward and pressed her palm to my forehead, checking my temperature. Her voice was gentle. Your fever broke. How are

you feeling?

I managed a weak smile for her. Bettera little.

As my head started to clear, Vincent’s voice suddenly echoed in my memory.

I was pretty sure I’d seen him in my bedroom earlier.

The thought of Vincent made me blurt out, Amber, where’s Vincent?

Amber seemed caught off guard by my question, but answered straight up, He’s the one who brought you here. Once you got your tests

done and the IV started, Quinton pulled him aside.

Panic shot through me. Amber, I need to see him.”

If Vincent had carried me to the hospital, then Quinton definitely knew he’d been at the Callum Mansion.

And knowing my brother’s temper, he wouldn’t hold backhe might even throw punches.

I couldn’t stop worrying about Vincent; that’s exactly why I had to see him myself.

Amber dabbed the sweat from my cheek with a gentle touch. You’re still recovering, so don’t strain yourself. Just rest, okay? Your

brother won’t hurt Vincent.”

My whole body felt like it had been hit by a truck, and my throat felt raw and scraped. But Amber’s reassurance helped ease the knot in

my chest.

Quinton might have a short fuse, but when it came to Amber, he never arguedhe just did whatever she asked.

If Amber promised he wouldn’t touch Vincent, then I could trust that.

Lying there in the hospital bed, my eyes started burning, and tears began sliding down my face without warning.

When Amber saw me crying, worry creased her brows. What’s wrong?

She reached over and wiped the tears from my cheeks.

My chest felt tight and heavy. I looked at Amber, my voice breaking. Amber, II just want to go home.

The whole mess from earlier today was still eating at me.

Seeing me so broken down, Amber’s expression softened with sympathy. She stroked my cheek gently. Hold on just a little longer, sweetheart. In a while, I’ll take you home myself, okay?

The doctor had said I’d need to stay in the hospital for some time. I couldn’t leave until my fever was completely gone and I’d finished

the full course of IV antibiotics.

I didn’t fight Amber on it. I just nodded and said, Okay, I’ll do whatever you say.”

Amber noticed how dry and cracked my lips were and smoothed my hair back. Just rest now. I’ll grab you some warm water.

With the season changing, Oakwood’s temperatures had dropped, and flu was spreading like wildfire throughout the city.

Worried about Amber, I reminded her, Amber, put on a mask. I don’t want you getting sick because of me.”

Amber nodded. I will. Just restI’ll be right back.”

I mumbled an okay and closed my eyes, sinking back into the hospital bed.

My whole body felt like lead, my consciousness drifting in and out.

In my hazy state, I dreamed that Quinton was punching Vincent.

When I opened my eyes again, I was drenched in sweat.

Footsteps echoed from the doorway.

Thinking it was Amber returning, I didn’t have the energy to turn around. Lying with my back to the door, I called out softly, Amber, my

brother really won’t hurt Vincent, will he?

Before I could finish, a low chuckle drifted over, followed by Vincent’s teasing voice, Oh? I had no idea you cared about me so much.

When I realized it was Vincent’s voice, I spun toward him instinctively, my eyes wide with surprise.

Vincent? What are you doing here?

I was sweating buckets, my cheeks burning red.

Vincent stood beside my bed in a dark tracksuit, his hair tousled and messy, his eyes crinkling with that easy, faint smile of his.

He had this rare kind of handsomethe type that stopped people in their tracks, with features so sharp and perfect they almost seemed

unreal.

Usually, he radiated that bad boy energy, but the moment he smiled, it all melted away, replaced by something clear and refined, almost

gentle.

Vincent settled into the chair next to my hospital bed, his long legs casually stretched out, the tracksuit highlighting his athletic build.

He looked at me, and his usual carefree attitude shifted to something genuinely sincere. His voice softened as he assured me, Really, I’m

fine. You don’t need to worry about me.

I didn’t press him for details. Once I was convinced Vincent hadn’t been hurt, I managed a small, relieved smile, then said quietly, You

should go home. I’ll be okay here.”

I wanted him to leave because I was scared Quinton might lose his temper with him again.

Vincent had brought a cup of water with a straw and held it gently to my lips. Actually, I’m not going anywhereI’m staying here with

you tonight. Take a sip, it’ll soothe your throat.

I didn’t drink. Instead, I frowned and asked, Where’s Amber?

Vincent brushed a few stray hairs away from my face, his voice soft and calming. They went home already.

I blinked in surprise, confusion washing over me.

Waitwhy would they leave?

Amber would never abandon me here alone, not the way she is, I thought, confusion flickering in my fevered eyes.

Vincent caught my expression and smiled, answering honestly, Amber convinced your brother to go home with her, so they both left.

I listened to Vincent, not entirely sure if I should believe himbut what was clear was that Amber really hadn’t returned to the room.

After thinking it over for a moment, I let it slide.

I still felt terrible and honestly didn’t have the energy to ask more questions.

Flu season was hitting hard latelyI’d actually caught it from Carry. Thinking about that made me worry that Vincent might be next.

Vincent had been sitting beside me this whole time without a mask or anything. I felt both thankful and anxious about it. Vincent, maybe you should go home,” I said, concern obvious in my hoarse voice. If you stay here, you’ll probably catch the flu from me.”

Vincent just brushed it off with a grin. If I catch it, then so be it. Besides, it’s way too late to worry about that nowyou’re not getting

rid of me that easily.”

That left me speechless for a moment.

Honestly, he was righthe’d been this close to me already, so if he was going to get sick, it would’ve happened anyway. There wasn’t

much point stressing about it now.

When I didn’t respond, Vincent grinned and leaned closer, his tone playful. Honestly, if I do end up catching it too, that just gives me the perfect excuse to move into your hospital roomI can take care of you, keep you company, and nobody can complain about it.
