188 Chapter 188 The One Who Stays
Blanche’s POV 1
My heart lurched when I caught Vincent’s words.
I’d always figured Vincent had ulterior motives for being sweet to me, but every time he showed his real feelings, it threw me completely
off balance.
Was it possible for someone to fake emotions this convincingly just for personal gain?
I couldn’t shake the doubt–was Vincent putting on an elaborate show, or were his feelings genuine?
Truth was, I had zero clue what to think anymore.
I chose to quit overthinking everything.
Reflecting on what Vincent had said, I responded, “Honestly, none of it matters now.”
My tone stayed even, and Vincent picked up that I wasn’t just speaking from spite.
When he heard my response, Vincent flashed a grin and said, “Hey, starting fresh is always an option. Testing the waters with a few
different guys wouldn’t hurt.”
I sank back against the headboard, completely drained.
Vincent’s comment made me furrow my brow, but looking at him, I couldn’t stop a tiny smile from creeping across my face. “Seriously?
You’ve got the guts to mess with me when I’m in this state?”
Vincent’s expression turned serious. “I’m not messing with you, and I’m not joking around. I’m completely serious.”
I understood that when Vincent suggested I should try dating other guys, he really meant himself.
Still, I decided to let it slide and move on from the topic.
With lunch approaching, I smoothly changed subjects. “Vincent, I’m craving shrimp.”
I genuinely just wanted shrimp at that moment–and absolutely zero more relationship talk.
Vincent’s face brightened–I hardly ever requested anything specific, “Absolutely, I’ll get it delivered.
But seeing Vincent’s smile, I suddenly remembered and quickly said, “Just don’t have your mom cook it.”
Vincent glanced up at me, still smiling, and showed me his phone screen. “Oops, too late. Already sent the text.”
I looked at the WhatsApp conversation on his screen, thinking about asking Vincent to delete the message.
But his mother had already responded: “Of course! If she’s into shrimp, I’ll make it for her daily.”
Above that was Vincent’s text: [1eidi, your future daughter–in–law wants shrimp.]
I didn’t bother reading the rest of their chat.

Seeing the situation was locked in, I closed my eyes briefly, then asked, “Vincent, is this seriously your approach to wooing women?”
I was completely serious, my eyes filled with real bewilderment.
Vincent pocketed his phone, gave me a mischievous little smile, and said, “I’ve never pursued anyone else. You’re the only one I’ve ever
wanted.”
I didn’t really buy into what Vincent was saying.
I just replied, “If that’s true, then you’re definitely smooth.”
Vincent went still for a beat, his expression suddenly turning cold as he snapped back, “Do you have to mess with my head like this?”
I caught his annoyance, faced him directly and said, “Look, I wasn’t trying to be mean.”
Vincent drew a deep breath, about to say, ‘It’s okay. I’m used to this by now!
But before he could speak, my phone on the nightstand buzzed again.
Predictably, it was Zain calling yet again.
Considering how Zain had already phoned repeatedly, Vincent asked with slight concern, “Are you sure you shouldn’t answer? What if
there’s an emergency?”
I stayed just as stubborn as before. “I’m not taking it.”
Seeing my resolve, Vincent backed off and didn’t push anymore.
Zain was his competition. There was no way he’d encourage me to talk to him.
Zain’s POV
Outside the emergency room, I walked back and forth restlessly, dialing Blanche repeatedly.
When she consistently ignored my calls, I eventually gave up trying.
After hanging around the hospital for hours, I received another call from Desmond.
“Mr. Jacob, the morning meeting is still going. Everyone’s waiting for your return,” Desmond reported.
I then told Heidi to remain at the hospital and instructed her to contact me immediately if there was any update about Carry.
As the housekeeper, Heidi wouldn’t dare disobey my orders.
After departing the hospital, I stayed swamped at the office all afternoon.
Throughout that entire period, Heidi never called.
By the time I wrapped up work, it was already late evening.
When I returned to the hospital, Blanche was still missing.

I questioned Heidi, “Blanche hasn’t shown up at all this afternoon? No phone calls either?”
Heidi noticed the irritation in my expression, but she could only respond truthfully, “No, sir. Nothing”
I stayed quiet and went to consult with the doctor again.
The doctor informed me that Carry’s condition had stabilized, but she’d need to remain in the ICU overnight and could only be
transferred out the next day.
After a draining day, I felt the urge for a cigarette.
I exited the inpatient ward, headed downstairs, and sat on a bench in the hospital garden.
While sitting there, smoke drifting around me, my attention was suddenly drawn to Amber and Camila.
Amber was guiding Camila by the hand, carrying a bag of fresh fruit in her other arm.
The two walked along the path toward the ward, oblivious to me sitting quietly in the garden.
Just as Amber and Camila were about to exit the garden path, I couldn’t contain myself any longer. I sprang up from the bench and
hurried straight toward them.
“Sis,” I called out.
Amber jumped at the unexpected voice, almost freezing mid–step.
When she spun around and saw it was me, her rigid shoulders finally eased slightly. “Oh–what’s wrong?” she inquired.
I got straight to business. “Have you seen Blanche lately?”
Amber didn’t respond. Instead, she questioned, “What’s happening?”
I explained, “Carry collapsed from a high fever today and had to be rushed to the ICU. I’ve been calling Blanche constantly, but she won’t
answer, and I’m genuinely worried something’s wrong… She’s never unreachable like this.”
Amber didn’t reveal that Blanche was actually hospitalized in the same building.
She simply stated, “I’m just Blanche’s sister–in–law. I don’t really have any reason to track her movements, so I’m sorry–I honestly don’t
know where she is, and can’t help you.”
I didn’t pressure her further. I just said quietly, sounding worn down, “I get it, sis.”
Amber looked at me a few more times, then grabbed Camila’s hand and continued toward the ward.
But just as they were about to go, I turned and called out, “Amber, with the seasonal changes there’s a flu outbreak. You probably shouldn’t bring Camila to the hospital right now.”
Only then did Amber realize–she’d completely overlooked the flu risk.
She gave me a gentle smile. “Alright.”
With that, she took Camila’s hand and walked back out of the hospital.

When Amber returned, I had vanished from the garden.
She carried the fruit bag into the hospital ward.
Blanche’s POV
By the time Amber reached my room, Vincent was there, carefully feeding me dinner with a spoon.
Amber examined the meal tray and noticed an impressive variety of dishes–all mild, nutritious, and clearly ideal for someone recuperating.
Amber smiled and said, “Mr. Aarav, you’re incredibly thoughtful. This is definitely homemade–you really put in serious effort for her.”
Vincent looked up and gave Amber a genuine smile. “Sharp eye, Amber–my mother actually prepared all of this herself.”
Amber’s eyes shifted, and she quickly asked, “So you’ve already told your mom about Blanche?”
Still feeding me, Vincent nodded. “Yeah, I mentioned her to my mom a long time ago.”
Amber dropped her voice slightly, probing, “And did you tell her that Blanche was previously married, and that she has a child?”
Once I had nearly finished eating, Vincent gently cleaned my mouth, then stood and addressed Amber earnestly. “Amber, everyone in my
circle–friends, family, even colleagues–they all know there’s only one woman who matters to me. And they know it’s her or nobody.”
Amber kept her focus on Vincent, studying his every expression. I could see her analyzing his words, trying to determine if he was being
genuine or just putting on a show. From her thoughtful expression and the way she paused before responding, it seemed like she was
coming to believe his sincerity.
She paused, then released a soft laugh. “Well, Mr. Aarav, you’re truly the type of man a woman could stake her entire future on.”
