243 Chapter 243 Blood Turns To Ice
Blanche’s POV
Vincent had a reputation for chasing women, but I’d never seen him show even a hint of submission to anyone before.
Now here he was, completely stripped of his pride in front of me.
Given Vincent’s position, he didn’t need to humble himself before anyone–not even Zain.
Everyone around us looked absolutely shocked by Vincent’s behavior.
Aiden finally snapped out of his stupor and turned to Demetrius and me. “Come on, let’s get out of here. We’ve got our own celebration waiting. No point wasting time on people who don’t matter.”
I simply nodded. “Right.”
Demetrius agreed. “Yeah.”
Aiden motioned for Demetrius and me to go ahead,

then quietly trailed behind us.
The three of us walked out of the hall without any
trouble.
Zain made no move to stop me from leaving. I caught a glimpse of his expression as we passed–something heavy seemed to weigh on him, but he swallowed whatever he was feeling and remained quiet.
As we reached the exit, I heard Joanna’s voice behind us. She touched Zain’s arm gently and whispered, “Zain, we should go.”
Zain seemed to blink himself back to the present and nodded softly. “Okay”
I could hear their footsteps as they began walking toward the restaurant’s exit behind us.
As they walked past where Vincent was still standing, I noticed Joanna deliberately looking his way. Vincent felt her stare but kept his eyes elsewhere. When Vincent ignored her completely, I caught the shift in Joanna’s expression, though I couldn’t quite read what she was thinking.

Aiden brought Demetrius and me to a different place-
a barbecue restaurant.
After we ordered grilled skewers, Aiden and Demetrius
dove into medical discussions.
Their conversation jumped between research papers, clinical studies, surgical procedures, and complex
cases.
Aiden would throw questions my way occasionally, and I responded without missing a beat–clear and confident.
When it came to medical theory, my knowledge was
rock–solid.
But despite my strong theoretical background, I’d never had the chance to apply it in real practice.
Aiden showered me with compliments, saying that with dedication, I’d one day become an outstanding physician like Demetrius.
I smiled humbly and promised to work even harder.
My modest response only made Aiden like me more.

When Aiden looked at Demetrius again, he noticed Demetrius seemed completely lost in his thoughts.
Seeing Demetrius’s distraction, Aiden smirked and teased, “Why are you spacing out when she’s right here in front of you?”
Demetrius stayed quiet for a moment before finally looking at me.
I felt his gaze and dropped my eyes slightly.
Aiden glanced between us with knowing expression, then turned to me. “Blanche, what’s your take on
Demetrius?”
I met Aiden’s eyes and, after a brief hesitation, replied, “Demetrius’s an outstanding mentor.”
Aiden grinned, half–joking but half–serious. “If he’s so wonderful, why don’t you go after him? Planning to let someone else grab him first?”
I realized Aiden was playing matchmaker, but I felt uncomfortable and uncertain. “Professor Reese,
actually I—”
I was about to mention that I was already married, but

before I could finish, Demetrius interrupted,
“Professor Reese, it’s getting late. I’ll see Blanche home safely. Next time, I’ll buy the drinks–let’s do this again.”
Aiden caught Demetrius’s panicked and anxious expression and sighed helplessly, shaking his head. “You little fool.”
Demetrius stood up and carefully draped his jacket over my shoulders to keep me warm.
We walked out of the barbecue place side by side, with Aiden watching us go. He shook his head with what looked like a mixture of fondness and resignation.
Once we’d gotten some distance from the restaurant, I finally spoke up, my voice quiet and uncertain.
“Demetrius, I need to tell you something.”
Demetrius stopped walking, and I noticed his body shaking slightly.
After a pause, Demetrius turned around. Without warning, he suddenly pulled me into a fierce embrace.
He held me tightly, resting his chin on top of my head.

His voice trembled with desperation as he whispered, “Just… don’t. Please don’t say it”
Demetrius already understood what I wanted to tell him, but hearing it from my lips was the last thing he wanted.
I could sense the regret radiating from him, the way his arms tightened around me as if he was trying to hold onto something that was already slipping away.
I felt my heart twist painfully, but I forced myself to continue. “Demetrius, this is something I have to say, regardless.”
Demetrius pulled me even closer, and his voice really did sound like he was crying as he pleaded, “Please….. don’t. I’m begging you, just this once.”
My heart ached, and I fell silent.
When I didn’t speak, Demetrius whispered again, “Just… let me keep this memory, okay? For me.”
My voice came out hoarse as I asked, “But what if even that hope disappears?”
Demetrius responded gently, “But what if it doesn’t?”

I wanted to say more, but Demetrius had already
released me, looking down at me tenderly as he said, “Let me take you home.”
As Demetrius finished speaking, I suddenly remembered something.
Vincent had promised he’d wait for me outside.
Even though I didn’t really expect him to be there, I couldn’t help glancing around, just to check.
Sure enough, his car was nowhere in sight.
I’d never truly believed him anyway, and finding him gone just confirmed I’d been right not to count on anything from him.
Demetrius noticed my subtle searching, and I could see it only made him look more dejected.
After I confirmed Vincent wasn’t around, I turned to Demetrius and said, “Let’s go.”
Demetrius stared at me, but no matter how hard he tried, the words he wanted to say just wouldn’t come
out.

From what I could see in his expression, he seemed to be struggling with something deep inside, wrestling with thoughts he couldn’t bring himself to voice.
We walked to his car in comfortable silence, both lost in our own thoughts. Whatever had kept Vincent from keeping his promise, I told myself it didn’t matter. I had more pressing concerns–like figuring out how to navigate the complicated feelings I’d stirred up tonight.
