314 Chapter 314 Nothing But The
Void
Blanche’s POV
Carry’s words made Heidi’s blood run cold.
Heidi lifted Carry and headed toward Blissfield Villa, her voice firm. “Miss Carry, Mrs. Jacob is your mother -she loves you more than anyone in this world. How can you talk like that?”
Carry wrapped her arms around Heidi’s shoulder, tears choking her voice. “I just want one mom. I don’t want
two.”
Heidi couldn’t grasp what Carry was getting at; bewilderment clouded her thoughts.
:
But as she mulled it over, understanding slowly crept in–she finally got what Carry was saying.
Carry wanted Joanna as her mom.
Heidi said, “Miss Carry, Mrs. Jacob gave birth to you. Her blood flows through you–you’re her flesh and

blood. She’s not just your mother; she’s the only one who can be your mother.”
Carry let out a small grunt, clearly done listening, so she went quiet.
Heidi felt Carry’s stubbornness, so she dropped it.
But deep inside, Carry held onto Joanna’s words tight.
She could only have one mom, not two.
If her mom stayed at Blissfield Villa, that meant Miss Joanna couldn’t stay here.
So she had to figure out how to get Blanche kicked out of Blissfield Villa.
Meanwhile, when Zain pulled me into the upstairs bedroom, he spun around and pinned me against the
door frame.
He slammed his right hand above my head, his towering body trapping me while his shadow
swallowed me whole.
He bent down, locking eyes with my dark, unreadable
gaze.

“Nothing went down between Joanna and me. That’s
the truth.”
I tilted my head up at him, a slow grin spreading across my face. “So? What’s your point?”
Zain searched my eyes, hunting for any flicker of feeling, but found nothing but void.
I stared right back at him, giving nothing away.
This wasn’t the Blanche he used to know; Zain thought, struck by how foreign I seemed. ‘She’s completely different now…‘
After a beat of hesitation, Zain finally croaked, “Do you
believe me?”
I gave a casual shrug, meeting his gaze head–on. “I believe you. Honestly.”
Zain burst out, “Really?”
I nodded. “Yeah, I mean it.”
Truth was, whether I believed him didn’t matter to me. I just didn’t want to set Zain off–I was scared he might decide he didn’t want the divorce after all.

Zain stared at me for what felt like forever before
finally saying, “As long as you believe me, that’s what
counts.”
I smiled at him. “I’m gonna go clean up now, you should too.”
But Zain didn’t budge. He grabbed my hand and said softly, “I got you a gift. Just open it and check it out.“”
He gestured toward the coffee table behind him.
I followed where he pointed and spotted a small box sitting on the coffee table.
Even though confusion swirled through me and questions raced in my head, I still walked over, curiosity sparking quietly inside.
I sat down by the table, my fingers hesitating for a heartbeat before I finally cracked open the box.
Inside sat a pearl necklace—all shimmering, classy, and clearly pricey, the kind of luxury that stole my breath for a second.
Right then, Zain came over, took the box from my hands, and lifted out the necklace.

He said, “Turn around. Let me put it on you.”
I just did what he asked and sat down, turning my back
to him.
Zain’s fingers brushed my skin as he carefully fastened the necklace at the back of my neck.
Once he got the clasp locked, Zain leaned in and pressed his lips to the back of my neck.
His mouth was scorching against my skin, sending a jolt right through me and scrambling my thoughts.
My body tensed for a moment, then I said in a rough, quiet voice, “I’ll take the gift. Thanks.”
No matter why he’s being nice to me now, I thought, if he gives me stuff, I’m taking it—every damn time.
Once the divorce went through, his life wouldn’t connect to mine anymore.
After all the years I’d put in, it was only fair I got something back.
Watching me accept his gift made Zain pretty pleased inside. He even started wondering if maybe I never

really meant all that divorce talk.
He just couldn’t buy that the woman who used to love him so hard could bail that easy.
Just as he got lost in those thoughts, someone
knocked on the door.
Heidi’s voice drifted in from the hall. “Mr. Jacob,
there’s a guest downstairs asking for you.”
Zain called back, “Alright, I’ll be down in a sec.”
He stood up from beside me as soon as he finished talking.
He looked down at me and said, “Go get cleaned come see you when I’m done downstairs.”

I almost wanted to tell him not to bother, but just to keep Zain from getting pissed, I flashed him a smile and said, “Okay.”
After Zain headed downstairs, Heidi walked in, pushing the door open.
I looked up and saw Heidi looking all stressed out. Not really knowing what was going on, I asked, “Hey, Heidi, what’s wrong? Something eating at you?”

Heidi was obviously rattled. “Mrs. Jacob, please, could you go check on Miss Carry? She won’t quit crying.”
I was thrown for a second, but then figured out Carry’s tears were probably about Joanna. That eased most of my concerns right away.
My face went cold and I answered sharply, “I’m not going. I need to rest.”
Seeing my reaction, Heidi rushed on, “Mrs. Jacob, Miss Carry isn’t a bad kid–it’s just if she keeps hanging
around Ms. Vins, then who knows what might happen…”
Before Heidi could finish, I cut her off, my voice hard. “Heidi, there are things even I can’t fix, no matter how hard I try.”
Heidi couldn’t help but sigh again. “Miss Carry used to be such a sweetheart, but now…” Her voice faded,
unable to continue.
I jumped in before Heidi could finish, my tone flat. “Trust me I know this way better than you ever could.”

Heidi didn’t bring up anything Carry had said, but seeing my cold response, it hit her: there was no way things between mother and daughter would ever get back to how they were before.
Zain’s POV
As soon as I hit the bottom of the stairs, my eyes found Nathan planted right there in the living room.
When Nathan heard footsteps coming from upstairs, he quickly jumped up from the couch and called out, “Leon!”
Seeing it was Nathan, I couldn’t help but furrow my brow in surprise.
Still, as I walked over, my face shifted into a smile and I said, “Hey, Nathan.”
Nathan looked at me and asked, “Where’s Joanna?”
It was only then that I remembered Joanna, but honestly, I had no idea where she’d disappeared to,
I frowned, thinking for a beat, then told Nathan, “She went out for a walk.”

Nathan didn’t have any reason to question me, but he still sounded a bit uncertain. “Yeah, okay.”
With that, he unzipped his backpack and started pulling things out, one by one.
As Nathan unpacked, he said casually, “Hey, I went back to Windsor for the weekend–my dad specially packed all this stuff for Joanna.”
On the table, he laid out some genuine Windsor specialties: tea leaves, black fungus, jars of wild honey…
None of it was really expensive, but it was loaded with Dad’s love–and that’s what made it precious.
As I took in everything spread across the table, my eyes grew thoughtful and a hint of gravity crept into my expression.
Once Nathan finished unpacking, he looked over at me and said, “Dad wants you to bring Joanna back to Windsor for New Year’s–he said he wants to cook something special for you both.”
I gave a gentle, subtle smile. “Got it, Nathan. I’ll
