44 Chapter 44 A Super Handsome Guy

Blanche’s POV 1

After finishing up with the medicine in the afternoon, I headed off to work. Demetrius drove me back to the Callum Mansion that

evening.

As I reached for the car door to get out, Demetrius was already out first. He opened the door for me, then held out his hand and said,

Let me give you a piggyback ride.

Demetrius, really, you don’t have to go to all that trouble. I can walk back myself,I said, feeling a bit embarrassed as I kept refusing.

Demetrius still looked worried. We’re already at the door; it’s just a few more steps. If something happened to you because I didn’t walk

you in, your parents would definitely blame me.

You don’t want me to be the culprit in your parentseyes, do you?

He was clearly joking, and I could tell he meant well. Now that he’d brought up my parents, I really couldn’t argue anymore. So, I handed

him my hand and said, Sorry to trouble you, Demetrius.

Demetrius took my hand and helped me out of the car.

Then, he was about to crouch down in front of me, clearly offering me a piggyback ride.

I felt way too awkward to let him give me a piggyback ride. I quickly grabbed his hand and said, Demetrius, just help me walk in, okay?

Demetrius straightened up and looked at me.

Seeing the tips of my ears turning red, he pressed his lips together and said, Alright, we’ll do it your way.”

I held the antiinflammatory medicine Demetrius had bought for me, and he helped me walk toward the Callum Mansion.

Camila had been waiting eagerly by the door for a while. When she saw someone coming in, she quickly ran over.

When she saw it was me, her eyes curved into little crescent moons. Aunt Blanche, you’re back?

The little girl’s face was full of excitement and innocence, but when she noticed me limping, her brows furrowed in concern. Aunt

Blanche, what happened? Did you hurt your foot? Does it hurt?

As she asked, Camila came closer to me, took the bag of medicine from me, and slipped her small hand into mine.

I felt a bittersweet warmth in my heart seeing how caring Camila was,

When I finally spoke, my eyes grew a little misty. Camila, don’t worry, Aunt Blanche’s fine. I just sprained my ankle a bit, that’s all.”

Camila’s face was full of worry. Does it hurt, Aunt Blanche?

I smiled and gently ruffled Camila’s hair. It’s not too bad. I can tough it out.”

Camila looked up at me, then noticed Demetrius standing nearby. Aunt Blanche, who’s this handsome big brother?

I smiled and said, This is my classmate, Demetrius Jake. You can call him Demetrius.

Camila was just about to greet him, but Demetrius suddenly interjected, Wait, since I’m your aunt’s classmate, that makes me the same

generation as her. You should call me Mr. Jake instead.

Demetrius wore a playful smile as he corrected her, and it was obvious he was teasing with a hidden meaning.

Camila was quickwitted. She sized up Demetrius.

He was handsome, tall, and talked in a really natural way.

Camila thought this uncle was great; he really suited me.

After thinking it over for a moment, Camila called out in her sweetest voice, Hi, Mr. Jake.”

Her cheerful greeting made Demetrius’s heart melt.

Feeling a bit guilty, he said, Ah, I came over in such a hurry today. I really should’ve brought a gift for my first visit.

Camila didn’t mind at all. She just stuck out her tongue playfully and said, Then next time, you better not forget, Mr. Jake.”

Demetrius’s smile grew even wider. I’ll remember that, Camila.

Seeing Demetrius helping me, Camila let go of my hand and dashed off toward the main hall.

As she ran, she called out, Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, Mom, Aunt Blanche brought home a super handsome guy.

I turned to Demetrius, a little embarrassed. Don’t mind her, she’s always like that.”

Demetrius never let go of my arm, smiling at me, Camila is adorable.

I said, Come on in. Have dinner with us before you head back.

Demetrius didn’t even hesitate. He smiled and said, Alright.”

Camila’s shout brought Roger, Irene, and Amber hurrying to the door to greet us. When they saw Demetrius, everyone’s faces lit up with

smiles.

During dinner, Roger pulled Demetrius in for a drink.

I wanted to stop them, but Demetrius reassured me before I could say anything. It’s fine, just a little,he said with a smile.

Irene backed them up from the side, so I really had no way to stop it.

Quinton didn’t try to intervene, but he didn’t have much to say to Demetrius either.

Still, during the meal, Quinton kept sneaking glances at Demetrius.

From his first impression, even though Demetrius showed up emptyhanded, he seemed decent enoughpolite and not awkward at all.

Quinton couldn’t help but think that Demetrius was a hundred times better than that scumbag Zain. If I ended up with Demetrius, my

life wouldn’t be half bad.

I knew exactly what my family was up to, so I just buried myself in my food, not daring to listen to whatever Roger and Demetrius were

chatting about.

Still, I couldn’t help overhearing Roger reminiscing about my childhood every now and then.

Demetrius listened closely, occasionally glancing at me and even reaching over to put some food on my plate.

Seeing how much Demetrius was enjoying himself, I didn’t want to butt in, so I just let my family carry on.

Dinner stretched on and on, and Camila was practically nodding off, but Roger and Demetrius were still going strong with their drinks.

Noticing his daughter was getting sleepy, Quinton got up and scooped Camila into his arms. He hadn’t planned to say anything, but he still gave Roger a gentle reminder, Dad, that’s enough for tonight. No need to keep drinking.”

Roger waved him off. Yeah, yeah, I got it.”

Quinton didn’t say anything more. He carried Camila upstairs, with Amber trailing behind.

With Demetrius still there, I had no choice but to sit at the table and play hostess. It wasn’t until half past ten that Irene finally convinced

Roger to stop drinking.

The two of them finished off two bottles of wine.

Demetrius barely seemed fazed, but Roger, being older, ended up throwing up and had to be helped back to his room by Isabela.

I was worried about Demetrius, so I poured him a glass of warm water. Demetrius, have some warm water.”

Demetrius took the glass, smiled, and said, From what your dad said, it sounds like things haven’t been easy for you.”

I didn’t deny it, but I just stayed quiet.

After Roger had had enough to drink, he started opening up about how hard my life had been and how unhappy my marriage was.

I kept wanting to stop him, but I couldn’t get him to hold back.

But once Roger had a few drinks in him, there was no stopping him; he just kept going on and on about how tough things had been for

  1. me.

Seeing I didn’t want to talk about it, Demetrius didn’t press. He took a couple of sips of warm water and said, Guess I should get going.”

I stood up. Let me walk you out,

Demetrius smiled, It’s fine, really. Don’t worry about me. I’ll just call a ride service.

I still wasn’t reassured. I’ll walk you out and wait with you until your ride gets here, then I’ll head back in.”

Demetrius glanced at my foot, about to say no, but I cut him off. Come on.

Seeing how determined I was, Demetrius didn’t argue.

We stepped outside and stood by the roadside. A chilly breeze brushed past us, and Demetrius turned to look at me.

My makeup was subtle, and my long hair was a little messy from the wind.

After hearing everything Roger had shared, Demetrius felt a pang of regret and heartache for me.

Blanche, you know, 1-Demetrius began, his voice a little hesitant.

He’d downed a bottle of wine, but with his strong tolerance, he was still clearheaded.

Maybe it was the liquid courage talking, but for some reason, he suddenly wanted to say things to me he’d never dared before.

But before he could finish, my phone suddenly rang, cutting him off.
