50 Chapter 50 The Verdict Is In
Zain’s POV 1
After leaving the Callum Mansion, I slipped into my Rolls Royce. My hand found the windowsill as the muggy night air drifted through. I lit a cigarette and drew in slowly.
Smoke swirled around me while my eyes sharpened with something dangerous. That video Drew had shown me flashed through my mind, and I crushed the cigarette against the ashtray.
I grabbed my phone and tried Blanche again. Ring after ring, but still nothing.
My patience was wearing thin. Then it hit me–Drew was the one who’d shown me that video. I dialed his number instead.
“Zain, what’s up?” Drew picked up immediately, club music pounding behind him.
“Where are you?” I asked.
He sent me the address, and I replied, “I’m on my way.”
A while later, I arrived at the location Drew had given me.
I didn’t come alone–Nicholas was right beside me.
When we pushed through the private room door, both our faces were stone cold.
Drew stood to greet us. “Hi, Zain, Nicholas.”
I glanced at the crowd around Drew. “Everyone out.”
Drew looked confused but didn’t question it. He probably figured I had serious business to discuss.
As the last person reached the door, I called out, “Shut it behind you.”
My voice was steady, unnaturally calm, and I could see it rattled Drew. The door clicked shut, and I settled next to him.
Drew sat down too. “What’s with all the secrecy? What’s happening?”
He looked between Nicholas and me, but we both kept our expressions blank–nothing like our usual selves.
Nicholas remained standing across the coffee table, his gaze sharp on Drew. “Zain has been hunting for Blanche all day. Can’t find her
anywhere. You know where she is?”
Drew’s face shifted when he realized we were asking about Blanche. He sank back into the couch, guilt creeping into his voice. “I–I don’t
know where she went.”
Nicholas’s expression turned icy. “You better not.”
Drew shot Nicholas a puzzled look. “What’s going on?”
Nicholas glanced at me sitting quietly, then back at Drew. “Carry misses her mom. She’s been craving her mom’s cooking. Zain has been

searching for Blanche all day–he’s losing his mind.”
Drew shifted uncomfortably, his brow creasing as he looked at me. I met his stare.
We locked eyes, mine cold as winter. Drew shrank under my gaze, stammering, “D–Didn’t you call her?”
Instead of answering, I pinned him with a steel stare. “Where did that video come from?”
My voice stayed calm, but Drew’s heart was clearly racing.
He bowed his head in front of me. “I did it. I had Mr. Dwayne send her to the town. But Zain, I did it for you. I couldn’t stand watching her
get cozy with another man behind your back.”
My expression didn’t change. “Which town?”
Drew replied, “You’ll have to ask Fisher. He handled the arrangements.”
“Call him,” I snapped.
Drew pulled out his phone with shaking hands and dialed Fisher.
Once he got the address, I stood and headed for the door without a word.
Drew looked worried as he jumped up and hurried after me. “Zain, I’m coming with you.”
Blanche’s POV
After work, I wandered down to a small creek. Autumn had arrived, but the heat still clung to the air.
I thought wading in the cool water might help me feel better.
The creek sparkled clear, with little fish zipping around. I caught a few for fun, letting myself relax and breathe.
Zain had called me several times today, but I really didn’t want to pick up. At first, I kept declining his calls, then I just muted my phone
completely.
Not seeing his name flash across my screen made me feel so much lighter.
I was playing in the water when Demetrius appeared.
We stayed by the creek until late in the evening, and just as we were about to leave, Demetrius seemed to step on something sharp–the
water around him instantly turned red with blood.
I rushed over, concerned. “Are you okay?”
Demetrius grinned despite the pain. “Must’ve stepped on some glass.”
Seeing him still smiling even though he was hurt, I decided not to lecture him.
“Come on, let’s get to the hospital. I’ll take care of you,” I said.
We were both doctors, so we knew a cut like this could become serious without proper treatment. A tetanus shot was essential.

Demetrius didn’t argue and went along with my plan.
After getting his wound treated at the hospital, I told Demetrius to come to my place first–I’d cook something for him.
The town was tiny, and finding food that actually tasted good was nearly impossible.
If I wanted to eat something decent, I had to make it myself.
Of course, Demetrius didn’t refuse–he just followed along.
After we finished eating, Demetrius said he felt sticky and wanted to shower. I just nodded and told him, “Go ahead.”
He hadn’t been in the bathroom long when someone knocked on the door.
I figured it was probably one of my neighbors.
I’d been in town for a while now, and the neighbors were incredibly friendly–they often brought me fresh vegetables.
Without even asking who it was, I went to open the door. But when I saw who was standing there, the warm smile vanished from my face
instantly.
“Zain?” I blurted out, my voice puzzled.
There was no happiness or sadness–just pure shock, crystal clear.
Zain was there, and Drew too.
I could see something shifting in Zain’s expression as he took in the scene–the cozy little apartment, the smell of home–cooked food still lingering in the air, the evidence of a peaceful evening. His jaw tightened almost imperceptibly, and I wondered if he was reflecting on how comfortable I seemed here, how different this was from what he’d expected to find.
Before Zain could speak, Demetrius stepped out of the bathroom, fresh from his shower.
Drew saw the situation and immediately turned to me, his voice full of rage. “Wow, so this is what you’ve been doing out here? We send you to town for work, and you end up living with your lover. Blanche, you’re really something–I never realized you were this kind of
person.”
I didn’t bother explaining myself. I kept my eyes fixed on Zain and asked, “And you? Is that what you think too?”
Zain spotted Demetrius as well, and his face grew even colder and more distant. I could practically see his thoughts churning behind those dark eyes–the way his gaze moved from Demetrius’s damp hair to the domestic scene before him, drawing his own conclusions.
Zain stayed silent for a long time, and I raised my voice at him. “Say something.”
Only then did Zain finally speak. “It’s right here in front of me. Do you still want to explain?”
I laughed, but tears shimmered in my eyes.
After Zain spoke, Drew immediately jumped in. “You and Demetrius have been hooking up since Oakwood. Even if you try to explain, do
you really think anyone would believe you?”
I finally turned to Drew, my voice cool. “If your heart’s twisted, then everything you see looks twisted too. You’ve already made up your

minds about me, so what’s the point in explaining anything?”
Drew was furious at my unapologetic attitude. Not wanting to argue with a woman, he walked straight into the room and went right up
to Demetrius.
“You’ve got some nerve, don’t you? You actually dare to touch Zain’s woman,” Drew sneered.
He stepped closer, his voice cold. “Are you looking to die?”
Demetrius just shrugged it off with a grin, about to say something, but I stepped in front of him, putting myself between them.
“Drew, if you have a problem, take it up with me,” I said firmly.
Drew let out a low, mocking laugh. “You sure are protective of him. Have you forgotten whose woman you are?”
I found it even more ridiculous. I looked up at Drew and said, “Why don’t you ask Zain if he even remembers he has a wife?”
Drew was left speechless. “T–That’s not the same thing at all.”
