53 Chapter 53 All His Warmth For Her

Blanche’s POV 1

That evening after work, I drove back to Blissfield Villa. Zain had been playing games with me that morning, claiming he was swamped

when we both knew he was just trying to make my life difficult.

I couldn’t sit still while Quinton and Amber’s situation hung in the balance. This mess needed fixing, and fast.

Heidi’s face went white with shock when she saw me walk through the door, but she kept her mouth shut.

Mrs. Jacob, what can I prepare for dinner?Heidi asked, her voice carefully respectful.

She still treated me with the deference due to Zain’s wife, at least.

I waved her off. Don’t bother. I’m just waiting for Zain to get home.”

Heidi nodded and left me alone.

The evening wore on. No sign of Zain or his entourage.

Neither Zain nor Carry had shown up.

After waiting for what felt like hours, my patience was wearing thin.

Heidi hovered nearby, then suddenly straightened like she’d remembered something important. Mrs. Jacob, it’s the weekend. Miss Carry

doesn’t have school.

I turned to her, eyebrows raised. And?

Heidi avoided my gaze, her voice dropping to almost a whisper. Mr. Jacob and Miss Carry might not be coming home tonight.

Something cold settled in my stomach. They do this often on weekends?

Sometimes,Heidi admitted.

Where exactly do they go when they don’t come home?

Heidi shifted uncomfortably but answered anyway. Could be a weekend trip, or they might stay at Ms. Vinsplace. It varies week to

week.

Her words trailed off into nothing.

The message hit me like a slap. I see.”

Heidi cleared her throat. Mrs. Jacob, should I draw you a bath? It’s getting late.”

I stood up from the couch and grabbed my purse. No. I’m leaving.”

Just like that, I walked out without looking back.

Heidi called after me desperately, Mrs. Jacob, are you really never coming back to live here?

My steps stuttered for a second. I considered her question before answering quietly, I honestly don’t know.”

Once I was in my car, I tried calling Zain. The phone rang and rang, but he didn’t pick up. So I sent him a text instead: [We need to talk.]

I stared at my phone screen, waiting for those little dots to appear. Nothing. Minutes ticked by with no response.

Finally, I had to accept the truth. He was deliberately ignoring me.

Back at Callum Mansion, I waited upstairs until Amber had tucked Camila into bed, then called her to my room.

How’s work treating you?I asked, studying her face for tells.

Amber plastered on a smile. Everything’s great, really.”

I pressed a little more, but she kept giving me the same rehearsed response. She was trying to protect me from whatever was really

happening.

I let it go and sent her to bed.

Outside Quinton’s study, I raised my hand to knock just as his voice boomed through the door.

I don’t believe Zain can just run the whole show. Let him try to keep me down all he wants. I’m never backing down to him.

My heart sank into my shoes.

Since my marriage, I’d brought nothing but chaos to my family. Now that I’d finally decided to walk away, I’d somehow dragged them

deeper into hell.

After Quinton ended his call, I knocked softly.

Come in,he called.

I pushed the door open with a smile I didn’t feel.

Quinton stood silhouetted against the floortoceiling windows, and his desk ashtray overflowed with cigarette butts. The air was thick

enough to choke on.

I cracked the window before turning back to him. Quinton, shouldn’t you be getting some sleep? It’s getting quite late.”

He looked surprised to see me. Almost done, Just finishing up some paperwork, then I’ll head to bed.”

I glanced at his dark computer screen but didn’t call out the lie. Instead, I placed the bank card I’d been clutching onto his desk. Quinton, this is money I’ve saved. It might help with the current situation.

His eyes narrowed. What’s this about?

I kept it vague. Consider it my investment in the family business.

Even without spelling it out, Quinton understood perfectly.

I was too observant for them to hide anything from me,

After leaving the card, I escaped to my bedroom.

I sat on the edge of my bed for what felt like hours.

Zain hadn’t even unleashed his full power against the Callum family yet, but what he’d already done was more than enough to destroy us

completely.

I couldn’t let my family suffer because of me, so I kept trying to reach him.

When I dialed his number again, someone finally answered but it wasn’t Zain.

Ms. Callum, what do you need?Joanna’s voice was silk over steel.

Ice water flooded my veins.

After a long pause, I managed, Yes.

Joanna’s tone turned arctic. Zain is washing my lingerie right now. If you have something important to say, I can pass along the

message.

Don’t bother,I snapped and hung up immediately.

I’d finally gotten through, only to slam the phone down like that. Decisive, yet utterly defeated.

Years of marriage to Zain, and he’d never done a single thoughtful thing for me not even opening a car door.

Yet that same untouchable man was willing to do Joanna’s laundry.

Zain wasn’t cold by nature. He simply saved all his warmth for her.

After Joanna’s little performance, I didn’t attempt to contact Zain for the rest of the weekend.

Come Sunday, I made another trip to Blissfield Villa.

The living room lights were on when I arrived. I assumed Zain had finally come home, but only Carry was there.

Mom!Carry bounced off the couch the second she saw me, her whole face lighting up.

I scooped her up and settled her beside me on the couch. Where’s your father?

Carry hesitated, then answered with obvious discomfort, Dad said he had work stuff to handle, so he went to the office.

I’d raised this little girl myself. I could read her like an open book when she was trying to hide something.

But I didn’t push. What was the point?

Instead, I asked casually, Where did you go this weekend for fun?

Carry perked up, eager to share. Swimming!

My pulse quickened. Who went with you?

Just Dad and me, Carry said quickly.

I could tell she wasn’t giving me the whole story, but I just nodded. That sounds nice.”

Mom, why are you asking about that?Carry tilted her head, genuinely curious.

I smiled and deflected. No reason. You should get ready for bed.

Carry looked up at me hopefully. Will you drive me to school tomorrow?

With Zain still CORDELIA, I couldn’t exactly say no. Of course.

That night, I slept in Carry’s room to keep her company.

Maybe it was stress, but I couldn’t stay asleep. I kept jolting awake, checking my phone only to find mere minutes had passed.

Even in the early hours of morning, Zain hadn’t come home. Maybe he had no intention of coming back at all tonight.

Maybe right now, Zain was fast asleep with the woman he actually loved wrapped in his arms.
