90 Chapter 90 Now They Needed Me
90 Chapter 90 Now They Needed Me
Blanche’s POV 1
Zain’s face turned stormy when I coldly refused his request.
After a pause, he shot back, “Isn’t this what you’re supposed to do?”
He meant that as his wife, I should iron his shirts.
I let out a bitter laugh. “I’m about to have breakfast. Handle it yourself or ask Heidi. I won’t do it, Zain.”
I deliberately didn’t mention Joanna, knowing full well he’d never make his precious mistress do household chores.
Zain studied me for several beats, but he didn’t push. He just headed upstairs.
I had some of Heidi’s porridge and an egg. Nearly time for school, and Carry still hadn’t appeared.
My patience wearing thin, I went upstairs to fetch her.
As expected, Carry was dead to the world. I shook her awake, warned her about being late, and left her to get ready alone.
Carry was usually punctual. The mention of tardiness jolted her awake, and she bolted for the bathroom.
I didn’t fuss over her like before. “I’ll wait downstairs,” I said simply.
Without checking if she’d heard, I left her room.
Walking past Zain’s door, I glimpsed through the crack and saw him clutching the iron.
He held it above his shirt, completely clueless.
He made a few tentative movements but never actually pressed the iron to the fabric.
Watching him, I couldn’t decide whether to pity him or laugh.
I couldn’t just walk away. I pushed the door wider and stepped in.
Zain glanced up at the sound. His expression soured seeing me, but he stayed quiet.
I approached, extended my hand, and said, “Hand it over.”
After a brief hesitation, Zain passed me the iron.
I took it and began smoothly pressing the shirt.
Within a few efficient strokes, I finished one side.
Flipping the shirt over, I caught a whiff of women’s perfume.
Joanna’s scent – I recognized it instantly.
For a second, I got distracted. My hand accidentally grazed the hot iron plate. The searing heat made me hiss sharply.

“You okay?” Zain asked, his brow creasing.
He remained where he stood, his tone detached, making no effort to check on me.
I knew that even if I collapsed right here, he probably wouldn’t feel anything.
He likely thinks I did this on purpose, I thought.
After all, I’d refused to iron his shirt but then showed up to help anyway. Now I’d burned myself while botching the very task I came to
In his mind, I was probably just seeking his attention.
I wasn’t expecting any concern from him.
“I’m fine,” I replied coolly.
And I was. Just a quick burn – once the initial shock passed, the pain subsided.
Since I said I was fine, Zain didn’t probe further.
I quickly finished and switched off the iron.
Setting the shirt aside, I told Zain, “Done.”
With that, I turned and walked out without hesitation.
Zain stripped off his robe, quickly pulled on the shirt, and called out just as I reached the doorway, “You should stay here the next few
days.”
1 stopped but didn’t need to think twice. “No thanks. I have my own place to go home to.”
I didn’t know Joanna wasn’t at Blissfield Villa, so my words carried extra weight.
Zain caught my tone but chose to ignore it.
He looked at my back and said, “Blissfield Villa is your home too.”
I just gave a hollow laugh. “Is it?”
Was Blissfield Villa my home?
Maybe once, but definitely not anymore.
Ever since Joanna moved in, the lady of the house was no longer Blanche Callum.
Zain didn’t answer my bitter question. He simply said, “Carry needs you to look after her.
My immediate reaction was to refuse. “Zain, I have work. I can’t revolve my entire life around Carry”
Zain watched my back. “I work too. If you don’t take care of her, who will?”
His words ignited my anger. I whirled around, glaring at him. “Then let Na-”

I was about to say Joanna’s manie, but Zain cut me off. “Joanna’s visiting family. She won’t be back for a while
At his words, I went silent.
Why had Zain called me to take Carry to school today? Why had he asked me to iron his shirt? Why did he want me to return and stay at
Blissfield Villa?
In that instant, everything clicked.
It was because Joanna was away temporarily, so now they needed me, and I was expected to come back and fill in.
I found it laughable, and deeply pathetic. I didn’t want to argue with Zain or waste more words. I simply headed downstairs alone.
That afternoon, I was completely unfocused at the hospital.
What Zain had said that morning kept echoing in my head.
‘If you don’t take care of her, who will?‘
School was almost over. If no one picked Carry up, wouldn’t she be devastated?
Thinking about this, I couldn’t just ignore it. I asked my supervisor for early leave and drove to the preschool.
When I arrived, most kids had already left. Only a few stragglers remained waiting for their parents, including Carry.
The moment she spotted me, her face crumpled and she burst into tears.
“Mommy, I thought you both forgot about me, that nobody was coming for me.””
Carry wrapped her arms around my leg, sobbing uncontrollably.
Such a tiny thing, with her little backpack, crying her heart out.
Carry was the child I’d carried for months, the one I’d nearly died delivering after suffering an amniotic fluid embolism. How could I
possibly not love her?
At that moment, my heart felt crushed in a vice, the pain unbearable.
I scooped Carry up, soothing her as I carried her to the car.
Back at Blissfield Villa, I went straight to the kitchen to cook for my daughter.
By the time dinner was ready, it was evening.
Just as we were about to eat, Zain walked in from outside,
Heidi, the housekeeper, blinked in surprise, then broke into a smile. “Mr. Jacob, you’re home. I’ll set you a place.”
It had been ages since the master and mistress of the house had dined together.
Tonight felt promising, and Heidi was pleased.
“Daddy,” Carry said, her face brightening.

Zain grunted acknowledgment, his gaze sweeping the food on the table before finally landing on me.
The housekeeper and his daughter had both welcomed him, but I hadn’t uttered a word. I just sat there, expression cold.
Zain’s POV
ISPOVered years ago, when I’d returned to Blissfield Villa unexpectedly. Blanche and our daughter had been eating dinner then, too.
The instant she’d seen me, Blanche had jumped up, adding another dish to the table and chattering excitedly about what Carry had done that day.
But now…
She had changed.
