The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 1036

Leilani looked up at him, her eyes shining with immense gratitude. In the morning light, his jawline was sharp, his presence a constant, unwavering anchor. "Thank you, Callahan. Every time I feel like I'm falling apart, you're always there to catch me."

"You've been there for me when my world was crashing down, too. You never have to thank me for this."

He reached out and affectionately ruffled her hair. They shared a warm smile, an entire conversation passing between them without another word.

...

After freshening up, they drove straight to the Pure-Spring Clinic.

Sunlight filtered through the wooden blinds, casting warm, golden patterns across the floor. Dust motes danced in the air, mixing with the calming, earthy scent of medicinal herbs.

Leilani finally lifted her fingertips from Mr. Larson's wrist. The pulse that had been chaotic and dangerously weak for months was now beating with a deep, steady rhythm.

The rigid tension in her shoulders vanished instantly, as if a mountain had been lifted off her back. She let out a long, silent breath of pure relief.

She looked at him, her eyes incredibly bright, her voice lighter than it had been in weeks. "Your pulse has stabilized."

"It was the real antidote."

"Thank God."

"How are you actually feeling? Is the chest pain gone? Any dizziness?"

Propped up against the pillows, Mr. Larson looked remarkably better. The gray pallor was gone, replaced by a healthy flush, and his eyes were sharp and clear.

He shook his head. His voice was still gravelly, but the words carried strength. "I feel incredibly light. It's like... like someone took a boulder off my chest."

He looked at her with overwhelming affection, deliberately keeping his tone light and teasing.

"What have I always told you, kiddo?"
