The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 1074

Gloria let out a bitter sigh, her voice laced with resentment. "Ever since he lost his mind and forced you to accept Tamara and the baby she was carrying, we barely spoke..."

After Milford's near-fatal incident, Gloria couldn't bear to stay in that house anymore. The sight of Tamara made her physically ill, so she had cut her losses, divorced Fitch, and moved out. Because of that, she had zero insight into anything that happened afterward.

The trail had gone cold.

Milford hung up, his heart sinking further. His father's charges were corporate, and everything seemed to trace back to the attempted acquisition of the Sloan Group. Maybe he could find a thread at the office.

He decided to head to the company. But just as he turned to leave the old estate, his eyes caught something in the corner of the living room. The trash can was empty, but a smudge of gray clung to the inner rim.

He crouched down for a closer look. It was ash. Someone had hurriedly burned a small stack of papers.

Who else but Fitch or Tamara would be burning documents in this house?

And what exactly had they destroyed?

Knowing this might be the only tangible evidence he had, Milford carefully scraped some of the ashes into a plastic bag. It might prove useful later.

He left the house and drove straight to the Sherwood Group headquarters.
