The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 1042

Fitch leaned forward, pouring every ounce of earnestness into his voice. "Could this all just be... a massive misunderstanding?"

Sean, the young officer recording the session, briefly glanced up but said nothing, his pen continuing to scratch across the paper.

Captain Watson held Fitch's gaze for a long, suffocating moment. His eyes were piercing, as if they could see right through the lies.

Fitch fought to keep his expression neutral, but his palms were damp. *Stay calm,* he chanted inwardly. *They don't have proof. This is just standard procedure. Or maybe a rival set me up. I just need to wait them out.*

"A misunderstanding?" Watson echoed slowly. He read a specific offshore company's name off a document, followed by several dates and exact transfer amounts. "Are these massive, untraceable transactions a misunderstanding, too?"

Fitch's stomach plummeted, but he quickly swallowed his shock. He furrowed his brows, putting on an award-winning performance of a man trying to jog his memory. "Oh, that company. Yes, they're a legitimate partner of ours. Those funds were standard commercial payments. I'd have to check with accounting to verify the exact numbers. Having a bit of cash flow is entirely normal for a business of our size, isn't it?"

He masterfully deflected, chalking everything up to standard corporate practice. In the corporate world, gray areas were everywhere. Without smoking-gun evidence, they couldn't touch him.

Watson didn't argue. He simply pivoted. "Then how do you explain the recent series of massive wire transfers into your personal accounts from unidentified sources?"

For a split second, Fitch's eyes widened in sheer terror. A cold sweat broke out across his spine.

Those transfers were from The Silver Mask. They had been sent to offshore, anonymous accounts that Fitch believed were virtually untraceable.
