The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 1066

"Think it through carefully. You can either stay here and wait for Callahan to destroy you, or you can come with Dad and start a brilliant, brand-new life. I'll come back for you in a few days."

With that, he gave her one last, profound look—his eyes swirling with unreadable complexity—before dropping his chin. He instantly melted back into the subservient posture of the butler, slipping out the door without a sound and clicking it shut behind him.

The soft click of the lock made Tamara violently flinch. It was as if someone had pulled the plug on her energy; she collapsed weakly into the plush sofa, her heart hammering against her ribs like a war drum in the silent room.

Her life had been perfectly fine. Now, out of nowhere, this mysterious, shadowy figure claiming to be her father was demanding she abandon everything for an unknown path. He promised wealth, but what if they were just going to be fugitives on the run?

Could she actually trust a single word he said?

...

Anticipating that the masked man would try to contact Tamara again, Callahan ordered round-the-clock surveillance on her.

Days dragged by. Not a single thing happened.

Callahan tossed his phone onto his desk and leaned back in his chair, a sharp crease of suspicion between his brows.

"This guy has incredible patience," he said to Leilani through the speakerphone, his tone analytical. "And it's completely out of character for Tamara to stay cooped up at home like a saint for this long."

In the past, Tamara rarely left the house because Gloria had kept her under strict control. But ever since Gloria and Fitch separated, Tamara practically ran the Sherwood estate. She loved nothing more than taking Fitch's black card and burning through cash at luxury boutiques.

Yet, the moment Fitch got locked up, she suddenly became a model homebody?

Did someone tip her off? Was she laying low?

Or worse... when things are this quiet, a storm is usually brewing. She might be sitting tight while a massive plot is set into motion.

Callahan's gut told him it was the latter.

He had called Leilani while she was working at Pure-Spring Clinic. She had stepped out to take the call.
