Leilani turned to leave, but Micah suddenly reached out to block her path, his tone carrying a frivolous dominance. "Don't be in such a rush, Ms. Sloan. Since fate brought us together, why don't you pick out a gift? It's on me."
He gestured toward the counters. "Pick whatever you want. Consider it a meeting gift."
Leilani glanced at the shelves lined with luxury goods, her expression cold and unmoved. "Not interested."
Micah chuckled low. "What, afraid Callahan will be upset if he finds out?"
Although Leilani didn't know the full history between Micah and Callahan, Micah's behavior made it obvious he took great pleasure in digging at Callahan. Previously, she might have ignored it. But now, Callahan was her boyfriend.
She looked up at him, her eyes calm but carrying a warning. "Mr. Locke, I believe we aren't that close. You don't need to stick to me like a leech."
Micah ignored the insult. Instead, he leaned in closer, lowering his voice. "We send gifts to get close. Once we're close... well, it won't be just gifts anymore."
Leilani lost the last of her patience. She took a step back, her voice dropping several degrees. "Mr. Locke, are you incredibly bored, or do you just find it entertaining to provoke Callahan's girlfriend?"
Micah didn't seem fazed by her coldness. He laughed, shoved his hands into his pockets, and adopted a casual stance.
"Ms. Sloan, don't be angry. I'm just curious. How did a cold fish like Callahan manage to trick you into liking him?"
"I heard you're a good doctor. Callahan certainly knows how to pick them—even for medical treatment, he finds the prettiest one."
"Has he ever told you how ruthless he is in business? Back when he swallowed up his competitor's company, he..."
Micah's face darkened instantly, his eyes turning sinister. "Ms. Sloan, I may like you, but there are some things you shouldn't say."
Leilani remained unfazed, giving him a dismissive glance. "Why? Did I hit a nerve?"
"You!" Micah narrowed his eyes dangerously. "Do you think just because you have Callahan backing you, I wouldn't dare touch you?"
Leilani raised an eyebrow in disdain. Micah's insecurities were so obvious that attacking them felt almost too easy. Not wanting to waste any more time on nonsense, her words became increasingly direct.
"Mr. Locke, instead of wasting time here with me, you should think about how to improve yourself. I don't have time for your boring games. If you're really that dissatisfied, go beat Callahan fair and square. Don't stand here acting like a pathetic clown trying to find validation through his girlfriend. It just makes me think that no matter how hard you try, you'll never measure up to him."
