The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 931

"Is he trying to piss us off, or just show off that he's pulling the strings?"

Leilani took the note, giving it a quick glance, but unlike Callahan, her attention was completely consumed by the vial resting inside the box.

Carefully using a piece of cloth as a barrier, she picked up the bottle and held it up to the faint light filtering through the shattered window. The liquid was crystal clear, devoid of impurities, refracting a haunting blue glow. She gave it a gentle swirl, her expression intensely focused.

Beside her, Abel helped Payton Larson sit up. Abel stared at the blue liquid, his curiosity getting the better of him.

"Dr. Sloan, what is that stuff? What kind of game is this guy playing now?"

"Could it be another trap?"

Leilani didn't answer right away. She had a theory, but she didn't want to get Payton's hopes up until she was absolutely sure. Motioning for everyone to step back, she moved to a well-ventilated spot and popped the cap. Having worked with Floyd Dillon long enough, she wasn't reckless enough to stick her nose directly over the opening. Instead, she wafted the air toward her face. A very faint, briny scent hit her, and she immediately sealed the bottle.

She stood in silence for a moment, her mind racing to connect the dots. Finally, she looked up, her gaze locking onto Payton.

"Based on how this guy operates, plus the color and smell... I'm fairly certain this is the antidote for the poison in Payton's system."
