The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 39

Callahan's gaze was heavy. "You can understand it that way."

Leilani didn't speak again; she just nodded and turned to leave.

The elevator doors slowly closed. Callahan watched her back disappear at the end of the hallway, his eyes darkening. Leilani's reaction just now was too calm. So calm that it seemed like she was deliberately hiding something.

Leilani returned to her apartment, closed the door, leaned her back against the panel, and slowly exhaled. Although she didn't know why Callahan asked that, she denied it for safety and to protect Paulina's information. Hopefully, Callahan really just thought he made a mistake.

On the top floor, Callahan exited the elevator. Back in his home, he stood before the study window and called Lennox.

"Help me investigate Leilani and Dr. Cheney's backgrounds," he said in a cold tone. "See what the relationship is between them."

Lennox was stunned. "Mr. Langley, wasn't Dr. Cheney personally invited by your grandfather? Didn't you say before that there was no need to investigate..."

"That was before. Now, I need you to find out the relationship between the two."

One or two coincidences could be accidental, but too many meant there was a problem.

The boss had spoken, so Lennox immediately agreed. "Yes, I'll arrange it immediately."

Hanging up the phone, Callahan gazed into the night outside the window, a thoughtful look in his eyes. Leilani and Dr. Cheney... there must be something he didn't know.

There were many patients from wealthy families on the dark web. Accepting these tasks meant good money and building a network. Currently, her real-life patients were mostly connected to the Watson family. Although the Watsons didn't have bad intentions, Leilani didn't want to be too entangled with them.

Since she wanted to accept patients from other networks, buying a shop was urgent. Leilani thought about her next plan. The last plan to buy a shop was interrupted by Milford. The two patients she was looking at now were from the dark web and couldn't be brought home. She needed an independent space to discuss plans and prepare medicine. She would have to wait until she found a shop before arranging consultations.

She turned off the computer and walked to the open area in the center of the living room. Taking off her jacket, she wore only a black sports bra, revealing slender but explosive arm muscles. Years of experience told Leilani that she needed strength.

Thinking of the force used by Clive and Josiah when they grabbed her the last two times, Leilani struck with even more power.

Half an hour later, fine sweat seeped from her forehead, and her breathing was rapid. Leilani walked to the wall, picked up a towel to wipe her sweat, rested for ten minutes, then took a shower and went to sleep.
