“When has a busy man like you ever been on time? Is work more important than your grandpa?”
Standing his grandfather up was indeed his fault, but work left him no choice. Callahan apologized helplessly. “Please cooperate with the treatment. I’ll have dinner with you when I get back.”
Dante had gone through the same phase in his life and knew some things couldn’t be rescheduled. Though disappointed, he didn’t hold it against Callahan. He grumbled as he hung up, worrying secretly that the two of them had missed each other for the second time.
Since they wouldn’t meet, Dante comforted himself. “Fine. With that brat away, I can get more information out of Dr. Cheney!”
Leilani arrived at the hospital promptly at nine.
In the room, needles flashed in Leilani’s fingers as she skillfully placed the final needle for Dante.
“Mr. Langley, after this session, the blockages in your heart vessels are completely cleared.” She packed up her needles, her tone calm. “Watch your diet, don’t get angry easily, and living to a hundred won’t be a problem.”
Dante sat up happily. “Dr. Cheney, your skills are miraculous! My old bones haven’t felt this comfortable in ages!”
Leilani smiled faintly and began organizing her medical kit.
Dante’s eyes darted around. His plan had failed last time, letting the girl slip away, but this time he was prepared. He excitedly pulled a photo album from the bedside drawer and leaned in enthusiastically. “Come, come, Dr. Cheney, don’t rush off. Look at my grandson! He’s handsome. You two would be perfect!”
Leilani was speechless. Again! During the previous two treatments, Dante had tried every trick to introduce his grandson, and she had coldly refused each time.
“Mr. Langley.” Leilani interrupted him, her tone firm. “My background is complicated. I’m not suitable for the Langley family.”
Why should someone who had been to prison and disowned by her family get involved in the vortex of a wealthy clan? Besides, as the Chairman of Langley Group, what kind of woman hadn’t Callahan seen? She wasn’t going to humiliate herself by creating misunderstandings.
Dante got anxious. “We don’t care about that!”
Leilani shook her head, her rejection absolute. She picked up her kit to leave.
Dante quickly grabbed her sleeve like a petulant child. “At least leave a contact number! In case I feel unwell, I can find you!”
