Setting aside the fact that Leilani had saved her life, Judie’s own principles wouldn’t allow her to throw a friend under the bus for the sake of family.
She truly believed that Callahan was incapable of cheating.
Besides, it was obvious that Leilani and Callahan both cared deeply for each other. Why should they let a misunderstanding tear them apart?
Judie felt it would be such a waste.
Stealing a glance at Leilani, Judie added, “Is it possible he had a good reason for whatever you saw? Or… maybe he’s planning a surprise for you?”
Leilani’s hands froze at the word “surprise.”
Judie quickly backpedaled, feigning innocence. “Oh! I was just thinking out loud!”
“Isn’t that how it always goes in TV shows? The guy is planning a surprise for the girl, and she misunderstands everything, but in reality, he wasn’t cheating at all.”
“I just picked that up from novels and TV.”
Leilani gave her a look but didn’t press further. The knot of anger in her chest, however, had mysteriously loosened a little more.
She knew that what Judie was saying was true, not just words to coax her into making up with Callahan.
Having dated Callahan for so long, Leilani knew his personality. He found even the thought of dealing with other women to be a hassle, so how could he possibly cheat?
Actually, after yesterday, Leilani had gone home and thought about it seriously.
She knew, deep down, that the probability of Callahan cheating was minuscule.
But perhaps because she had been betrayed so many times in the first half of her life, she had a trauma response. Even though her heart knew Callahan wouldn't do something like that, she should have calmed down and listened to his explanation.
But like a knee-jerk reaction, when the evidence was right in front of her, Leilani found that her famed composure had shattered in an instant.
She was completely unable to think about the situation calmly and could only resort to giving him the cold shoulder.
Meanwhile, Leilani had just placed the order for Callahan.
When the delivery arrived, Callahan was in a meeting.
Lennox received a call from the front desk and was about to go down to see what was going on.
But when he reached the ground floor, the scene before him made even the worldly Lennox stop in his tracks.
There, at the company’s lobby reception desk, eighteen exquisitely packaged takeout meals were lined up in a row, taking up almost the entire counter.
The boxes had gilded logos, and the insulated bags were elegant and refined.
The faint, delicious aroma wafting through the air made passing employees turn their heads frequently.
The receptionist hurried to greet Lennox, looking at him as if he were her savior. “Lennox, thank goodness you’re here!”
