Doreen was still hesitant.
“But with Carola’s personality, I doubt she’ll agree…”
Recalling Carola's recent rebellious streak, Lance’s eyes turned cold. He scoffed, “It's not up to her.”
…
With Hollis and Doreen’s return, Carola’s confinement was lifted.
But before she could even celebrate, the bad news arrived.
The next morning, at the breakfast table, Carola sensed something was wrong as soon as she came downstairs.
Her father looked extremely stern, and her mother kept glancing at her, wanting to speak but hesitating.
As for Lance… he was ignoring her as usual.
The tense atmosphere, like the calm before a storm, made Carola's heart pound.
She bit her lip and sat down quietly. Just as she picked up her fork, she heard Hollis speak in a grave tone.
“Carola, we have something to tell you today.”
Carola’s fingers trembled, a bad feeling rising in her chest. “What is it?”
Hollis glanced at Lance, who put down his utensils and spoke directly.
“We’ve arranged a marriage for you with the Dillon family. You’ll go and meet Kian Dillon in a few days.”
Carola’s eyes widened, and the fork clattered from her hand onto the table. She thought she must have been hearing things.“What did you say? What Dillon family?”
When had there ever been a Dillon family in their city? She’d never even heard of them.
And why should she have to go meet him?
Hollis and Doreen had never mentioned this to her before.
Carola's gaze instinctively shot to Lance.
This had to be his doing.
Lance’s expression hardened. So, Carola knew exactly why the family was angry, yet she still refused to change.
It was clear that in her mind, Tamara was more important than her own family.
“So, you do know what the family has forbidden you from doing.”
He stood up, looking down at her.
“But you still choose an outsider, disappointing us time and time again. And even now, you stubbornly refuse to see the truth…”
“For your own good, we have no choice but to send you away to cool off.”
Carola clutched the tablecloth, her nails digging into her palms.
Her voice broke, laced with panic. “So, you’re abandoning me now?”
Lance’s brow furrowed. “No one is abandoning you!”
“Then why are you forcing me to get married?”
