The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 699

As they were about to leave, Ethan looked at Leilani. “Should we call it a day? I can give you a ride home.”

Leilani shook her head. “No, it’s okay. I drove here.”

“Alright, then.”

"Thank you for the gift. I really love it.”

Ethan smiled. “I’m glad you like it.”

He hesitated for a moment before asking, “Can I… ask you out again sometime?”

“Of course,” Leilani replied without a second thought. As a friend, Ethan was thoughtful and kind, not to mention her childhood was filled with the kindness of his family. In her heart, she had long seen him as an older brother.

Ethan could see that Leilani had no romantic feelings for him, and the ache in his heart deepened. After a long moment, he managed a resigned smile. “That’s good.”

He watched her leave, his eyes following her until she disappeared around the corner. Then he lowered his gaze to the coffee stains on the table and let out a soft sigh.

It’s okay, he told himself. So what if she’s engaged? An engagement doesn’t always lead to marriage. And even married people get divorced. If he just waited, sooner or later, his chance would come.

...

But thinking was one thing. The thought of Ethan’s intentions toward Leilani still made him restless. He decided to leave work early and head home to lie in wait.

...

When Leilani opened the door, she found Callahan sitting on the sofa, reading through a file.

Hearing the sound, he looked up. “You’re back.”

Callahan was just about to put on a stern act and tease her a little. To his surprise, after changing into her slippers, Leilani walked over and sat down beside him. She casually picked up a glass of water from the table, took a sip to wet her throat, and before Callahan could say a word, she brought up the fact that she’d had a meal with Ethan. “I went out to eat with Ethan today.”
