Forget about merely surviving this crisis—they could use that money to stage a massive comeback.
Hackett blurts out, "Mr. Langley, are you... are you serious?"
Josiah didn't expect his father to lose his composure so quickly. Leilani is engaged to Callahan now. Taking three hundred million to completely sever ties means selling off any future leverage they might have with Langley Group. It's a terrible long-term deal.
Josiah immediately tries to intervene. "Dad! Just calm down for a second, we need to—"
But Hackett is already completely intoxicated by the prospect of three hundred million. He isn't listening to a word of Josiah's reasoning. He violently shakes off his son's hand and looks at Callahan with a complicated, calculating gleam in his eye.
"Mr. Langley, are you absolutely sure you want to spend three hundred million just to sever my relationship with Leilani?"
If Callahan is willing to drop that much cash, Leilani's position in his heart must be astronomically high. Hackett can't wrap his head around how a daughter he finds so unlikable could hold so much weight with a man like Callahan.

"What?" Hackett freezes, the color draining from his face. "Mr. Langley, you just said three—"
They had hesitated for barely a minute, and it just cost them fifty million dollars. Hackett's chest tightens in panic.
While he is still reeling, Callahan casually glances at his watch, his tone utterly indifferent. "Two hundred million. One hundred and fifty million..."
"I am still the head of Sloan Group," Hackett snarls, flexing his patriarchal authority. "It is not your place to speak!"
The veins on Hackett's forehead bulge. He turns back to Callahan, his tone absolute, burning his bridges with decisive finality. "Mr. Langley, we will do exactly as you say!"
Callahan watches the family drama unfold with an emotionless stare.
"Excellent," he nods slightly. "Two hundred million it is. The funds will be transferred to your account the moment you hold a press conference publicly severing all legal and familial ties with Leilani."
A press conference?
Hackett didn't expect Callahan to demand a media spectacle. This completely shatters Hackett's secret backup plan. He had been holding onto a sliver of hope...
