The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 790

"I'll have someone stay at the hospital to keep an eye on things," Josiah promised softly. "He'll be safe."

Josiah's logic finally broke through her panic. He was right. There was a long road of recovery ahead, and sitting in an empty waiting room wouldn't help anyone. It was better to go home, shower, get some sleep, and make some nutritious soup to bring back in the morning.

Exhausted and defeated, Zadie finally nodded.

"Okay... let's go home. But make sure someone is watching him."

"I already handled it."

Supporting his mother's frail weight, Josiah slowly guided her out of the hospital doors into the cool night air.

...

True to the doctor's word, by the next day, Hackett was stabilized and transferred out of the ICU to a private room.

Sunlight filtered through the blinds, casting a warm glow across the bed. Hackett lay motionless, his face pallid, an oxygen tube taped beneath his nose.

Zadie sat by his side, her eyes red and swollen, gently dampening his lips with a wet swab.

Josiah stood at the foot of the bed, listening to the attending physician.

Flipping through the chart, the doctor kept his voice low. "He's officially out of the danger zone. But remember what I told you yesterday: absolute tranquility. No anger, no stress, just pure rest. I have other rounds to make, but ring the nurse if anything changes, and they'll page me."

Since Hackett was still asleep, there wasn't much else to do. Josiah thanked him, and the doctor stepped out.

Hackett's eyes were wide open, blazing with unadulterated fury. Fueled by a sudden surge of adrenaline at his son's words, he violently snatched the water glass off the nightstand and hurled it directly at Josiah.

The glass missed his head by inches, shattering against the wall with a deafening crash.

"Dad!" Josiah jumped back in shock.

Zadie leaped out of her chair, terrified. "Hackett! When did you wake up?"

Hackett's face was turning an alarming shade of purple, his chest heaving so violently the oxygen tube shook.

Panicking, Zadie rushed to hold him down. "Please, calm down! The doctor said you can't get stressed! Whatever it is, we can talk about it, but getting angry won't fix anything!"
